no news. her exit might look a bit darkish right now, hard to tell. I think she's going to go the human route and go 9 months.
The other one is now showing similar symptoms (they were bred at the same time). She is pawing the ground etc. too but is not as 'open' as Carmel and not acting as uncomfortable. We'll see!!! Long night ahead of me AGAIN!
I'm not sleeping up there tonight - I'll check on her periodically, though.

Any News????
Sorry - I really thought your girl was in labor. But now that she is (fingers crossed) do you have any babies? Is your other goat still showing signs of labor - or is she all done?
Anxiously waiting to hear the news . . .

Hee hee, that's funny, you can't believe how long they can drag you along like they are. I have plenty of experience with sheep and goats, and they can STILL drag me along for two WEEKS sometimes, until I finally just throw my hands up in frustration and say "whenever they have them, they have them!!"

Our girl started to "bulge" out around her vulva a couple days before she kidded, when I first saw it I thought that she was in labor, and when I checked, I found out she was not, but when she laid down again she bulged once more. Sounds like she is close. Good Luck. Bye.

I have a boer doe right now who is very close. She bagged up three weeks ago and her vulva is swollen. Two days ago, I could no longer feel her ligaments She is uncomfortable and grunting as she gets up or lies down. Pawing at the ground is a good sign labor is close but some of mine do that for two weeks prior- this one here hasn't pawed yet. Mine, when they are ready to go into labor, will seek a place out by themselves. At that point birth will be within minutes- no other sign has been as accurate or universal for us. Good luck with your kiddings cjb and everyone else

cliff i'm wondering if you have a due date on this doe? if there is is a misspresentation of a kid than you might see labor going on and off but not progressing. you will have dead kids in short tme and if it's going real bad you will have a dead doe.

CJB, I'm wondering if your shouldn't check her a little....see if there is an odd piece of kid presenting. See if her cervix is dilated...that kind of thing. In all likelihood, she's just getting really ready and will drop them like hot potatoes, but better safe than sorry.

Well - I haven't seen even one contraction so i cant say she is going in and out of labor, really. She is just exhibiting lots of signs that she is very close. Her milk bag looks shinier to me this morning. She still have very little discharge and she only bulges when she lays down. When she stands up again, it just goes flat. She is happily eating away so I don't know if a check is really necessary?
I actually have not ever checked a goat before and would have no idea if she's dialated or not?? I assume that, if its closed in there, she is not. How open should it be if she is dialated?
I think she's just very close and very large and uncomfortable. To me, the biggest sign was pawing the ground but then I noticed out yearling doe that's not pregnant doing the same thing. Its hot here right now so panting isn't that unusual.
Hmm... I'll think about checking her.
Oh, by the way, i do NOT know the due date. Ours don't display signs of being in heat so I drop them off for 3-4 weeks. I left them there basically the month of December, almost exactly so they could be due anytime in the month of May. I actually suspected they jsut went out of heat when I dropped them off so thought they would be due mid/end of May.

Update:
So, as I was leaving for the office, I checked her one more time. Still nothing coming out the "exit"... however, her body shape changed pretty drastically. Her sides are much flatter and flabbier so I think baby/babies are moving on back!! Should be soon then, huh?
Oh who knows?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! My son is watching her every 30 minutes and is supposed to call if anything changes so I hope I don't miss it.

Don't take your eyes off her! My doe that has been acting the same way as yours had twin does this morning! There was no heavy goo or anything. I just went to check her and she was pushing. I'm glad I was there too, I had to help her with the first one but the second one was no problem.

Oh congrats on the twin does!!! How perfect. I would be happy if every baby was a doe! Last year, between these two sisters, I got two does and one buckling. He was the cutest though so wouldn't change anything.
Yes, I have my son checking Carmie every 30 minutes now. She's still laying around chewing her cud.
By the way - any truth to people saying that they usually won't delivery during the day if its hot out? I heard they will wait until evening if its hot. Can't imagine they really have control.
So you would NOT suggest a pelvic feel then? I hope I don't have to!!! No prob helping with kids but I hate to invade just to see if she's diallated etc.

TexCountryWoman - I have also been kidding since December. Which is not a good thing in Wyoming. We had our buck and the neighbors buck breaking down our fences last July & August The kids of course were born at sub zero temps, and our survival rate was not so great . This morning when I got off work I went out to do chores and I was checking on my 1st freshening Nubian, Beatrice, . . . my "last one". Then I started looking around and thought I would check Snoopy as she all of the sudden looking a little fat. She is a Kinder, and gave us a set of quads in early December. We lost 2 of those , well I'll be darned if she isn't pg too! Then I checked Uno (Snoopy's only single birth) she is also pg. Uno gave us twin bucklings in late December. I was getting really scared at that point and I still had one more suspicious looking girl to check. Gracie, also kidded in early December, and now I think she is pg too. The two Kinders I realize will breed all year round, but this is the first time I've had it happen. However, Gracie is a Saanen, and I honestly am shocked. The bucks are housed on the other side of the fence, but I think they are going FARTHER AWAY! SOON.
I would like to give my fertile Myrtles a break. Goat milk anyone?

My wife says Carmel still looks the same. I did notice the caved in sides this morning so will be surprised if it doesn't happen tonight.
Do does ever just NOT go into labor because of malpresentation? If so, not knowing the due date, what indications of a problem should I look for? I would know to look for straining without success, a lethargic goat (although she is because she's huge and its hot out), discharge without birth etc. Anything else? Like I said, she could still not be due for a week and a half so I don't think I should be too alarmed. She sure LOOKS ready.
I teach a marriage class this evening so I sure hope she waits now!

If she could still have time left, i would not yet be alarmed. They can really fool you. If a goat had dead babies inside, they will get sick and feverish. If she is acting okay other than being big as a house and miserable from being big as a house, just wait and watch...but it can drive you nuts. If she was trying to have babies but they were malpositioned, she would have been actively pushing til worn out and then stop, IMO.

CONGRATS on all the preggos cowgirlracer! cjb, don't worry, she will go when she wants to, which if she is anything like our girls, that will be when they think that you aren't looking, that is why it REALLY helps to have a window facing the goats, you cna see them, but they can't see you. Good Luck. Bye.
