Oh, she'll fit just fine in an airline dog crate, she doesn't even need a whole truck bed...that will leave room for a pony!
Icelandic sheep??? Now you're speaking my language! I would LOVE to have one - my dream animal! I have Soays now, but really, really, really want Icelandics...We could work a trade...an Icelandic Lamb for a 2nd year Pygora (registerable) goat. They can't be bred until their second year, so she's just the right age! I'd even throw in two male Khaki Campbell drakes...
How 'bout it?
Seriously, if you want to meet for dinner or something while you are here, give me a call...how do I PM?

Did someone say...fiber goats?

I've got a pair of Angora goats and a two week old billy. I've been waiting for three years for my pair to produce a little one! I also have a couple of Cashmere goats as of the end of last year. Hoping that my male Angora and the female Cashmere will give me another little one. This is in addition to about ten sheep and five angora rabbits. Yes, I am addicted to fiber.

I mostly have sheep (Shetlands), but also have a black badgerfaced Angora wether (courtesy of a friend who raise both Shetlands & colored Angoras). His coat color actually kind of varies - he lightened up a lot his 1st year, then got darker again (got a *beautiful* clip off him this fall, over 7 lbs (skirted) of glossy dark steel grey fiber - had it made into roving at Zeilinger's & already spun up a bunch - it's gorgeous!) & right now he's a lighter "cloudy day" grey again. I hand shear him 2x/year. Here's Griffin w/a couple of my ewes:

Shahbazin: Awesome pic of the sheep! This pic is making this goat-owner want to coax hubby into building another barn for the anticipated sheep! Love 'em! I wish there were someone around here that could teach me how to spin. The closest one is about 4 hrs. drive away. (bummer). How did you learn?

Great discussion, you fiber lovers! I just brought home 2 angora goats and am watching that fiber grow daily. It sure grows fast, doesn't it? I was just wondering if I'd be able to harvest it myself--thanks to you folks, I think I'll try this fall. Then yesterday I brought home two lambs, one white, one brown---just mixes. I know nothing about sheep, but am willing to learn. I've got only experience with goats, which I dearly love for their personalities. My husband will have a fit if I mention Pygoras right now. But I can look, hugh?

SPINNING
We have a club called "log cabin spinners", and they graciously taught us...you can advertise for like-minded individuals to form your own club, go to fiber fests and fairs, express your interest and see if there is anyone near you. Another overlooked resource: check with the activities directors of your local nursing homes...you just might find a spinner who would be delighted to pass on her expertise. Also, call extension office/4-H office and see if they know anyone...Otherwise, it's worth a 4-hr trip!

We just sheared our Angora buck for the first time this weekend. And I did mean weekend. We sheared half on Saturday and half on Sunday. What a lot of fleece! I was surprised at how much oiler his fleece seemed than the Pygoras. By the way, I finally got a website up, and he is pictured there prior to shearing. I'd appreciate any comments or suggestions on the website. It's still a work in progress. pipescanyonpygoras.com

Thanks, JoAnne

It looks great, Joanne! I'm still working on ours. I'm using a free host, so we have annoying banners and pop-ups, if you can block them or ignore them, have a look-see!

Of course, I still haven't gotten all of the goats up yet...it's a work in progress. We just finished kidding on Sunday, and have two new girls arriving Thursday...

Shahbazin, I LOVE THAT GOAT!!!!

Wooley, it'd be great to tie up with you while we're in the area! You can contact me directly through brownsnout.com and we can figure out times and places. The e-mail goes to my husband's computer, but that's no big deal.
