Our doe, Snow White, has alway kidded between 2 and 5 PM. Normally between 2 and 3 PM.

I've been feeding the grain at night to have more afternoon babies. For the most part it worked for me. I did have a couple late nighters (only one night but two does kidded).

Well, it's obvious your goats don't know or follow the rules either. Hmmpf.

Snow White has always made her own rules. lol
We've had late night kiddings, but after reading about the heavy haying and their heavy grain feeding in the evening, I've been doing it that way. I've only missed four (however dad was there for one) out of 16 kiddings this year. I've never seen a single one of Utopia's 4 triplets and 2 twins....I knew Baby was going to deliver that morning and she did. In the one hour that dad nor I were at the barn (and one of us is there about 20 hours out of every day in the winter time).
You should try the evening feeding time to help pull them around to the afternoon.
It's been especially nice since we've had such a high percentage of first fresheners this year.

Roseanna, my girls get a morning and an evening feed. I guess I'm confusing the bejeebers out of them.

Do you feed hay free choice? Or do they get hay from you daily?
Our up close does get hay from me. I try to keep their manger full and I do the main filling at night as well. They eat more right after I put it in.
I believe, if I remember correctly, the idea is to fill their gut so they spend the night digesting. They will be ready to kid when they are finished diegesting. So a heavier feeding in the evening, than compared to the morning feeding might work.
Vicki was talking about this earlier in the season on Dairy Goats Plus. It makes a lot of sense.
We've had kiddings all the place, but since I started brining them to the cow barn and feeding them individually and a heavier hay feeding and more grain feeding at night they've come around to generally kidding during the day.
It will be interesting to see just how long they need that schedule for it to have an effect. I am bringing in 6 or 7 heavy bred does who are due starting April 10th. We are bringing them over as soon as possible which gives the majority of them two weeks here before they are due.
They will be put on my regimen. Since three are first fresheners and three have not kidded in three or four years I really need to be there. The other one, who is already sacked up tight (probably bucks), was brought into the herd this past year without much history info. I hope two weeks is plenty time to have them adjust. It sounds like it shouldn't take long for them to readjust though.

We fill the hay racks twice a day. The girls are loose in the barn with open access to the pasture. Nothing growing yet though. The boys have their own pasture.

Well, I missed my fifth kidding out of 17 this season while I was up here yakking this morning.
Sassafrass, first freshening yearling, had a single doeling. The little doeling looks like Sassy's twin sister Cleopatra who was killed by a couple of dogs about the same time Sassie settled. Cleo was pregnant when she was killed. The only big difference between Sassy's doeling and Cleo is Sass's doeling has her momma's elf ears (and her grandmother's) and Cleo had airplane ears.
Sassafrass settled to William (Boer/Saanen), who is either her father or her half uncle (out of the same Boer buck). I don't know if Sass was out of William or Charlie. I think she's out of William so this is inbreeding. Not something I wanted. Sass was supposed to kid back on January 24th to Bo, so I put her back in with the other bucks because she was supposed to already be bred.

Can you give them a heavier hay feeding and a heavier grain feeding in the evening? It might help.
I've spent nights in the barn thinking for sure someone would kid. I generally gave up at 2AM or so and came up to sleep. Dad was generally back at the barn by 5AM or so so it worked out well.
I miss more kiddings in the spring because it is nice out and there are other things to be doing than just spending my time watching goats.
I put Snickers in a kidding pen just now in case she surprises us. She is sacked up nicely, teats are filled in, tail is very wobbly, ligaments are basically gone, etc. It is day 152 for her according to my notes.

Oh did I mention the one sure way to NOT have your does go into labor is invite people over to see the babys . Lol the only good thing is that their ligaments are loose. Still for sure there but are loose.

Watching a birth can be educational. Though if she is a first timer she might not like all the attention. lol

I've given up on Snickers for the night. Her kids are beating the crap out of her insides and I expect them tomorrow. She is in the very early stages of laboring. I'll kick myself if I miss these ones, too. Wouldn't you know I've been talking about how well they've been doing with the day time kiddings and here I am still awake at 1:30AM.
Good luck with your does, motherclucker. They have to come out sometime.

Hey Shelby, if talking works, could you go down to my place and have a chat with Mermaid and Razzle Dazzle and Hope?

LOL, moosemaniac

I swear that Matty was talking to Tassie, the day before and the next morning. All the other does were quiet and Matty was up looking over the side of her pen having a conversation with Tassie. Goat talk so I really don't know what was said.

But during Tassie screaming and Matty talking to her. Mandy (Matty's daughter) was kicking the dog snot out of the Buck. LOL

*bribes the goats to kid *

I betcha they either want a large audience or they want to wait until your guests leave. If I was a goat, I would wait until they left :P
