Hello from Canada
I currently live in Toronto however I am planning a move to Smithers which is located in northern British Columbia. I intend to buy a chunk of land there and begin my homesteading lifestyle. At this point it is only me so I plan to start small (couple of pigs, perhaps a dexter, chickens for meat and eggs, garden, small orchard) and see where life takes me!
At this point I think my plan is to buy as much land as I can afford. Even if I don't use it all I think it's better than buying small and then having to start again when needs require more land.
If anyone could offer advise to a beginner in the north it would be greatly appreciated!
Currently my questions are primarily around appropriate breeds for the climate as I would like to primarily pasture the animals and limit the amount of feed I have to purchase. Winters can be harsh!
Thank you and I look forward to contributing any way I can to this forum.
