Hello from Tennessee!!!

Hello everyone. My wife and I just purchased 10 acres of hardwood forest with a couple of small clearings on it. Our homestead has begun. We are in our late 30's and our youngest children are within a few years of adulthood so we have decided to go for our long desired way of life. We have our house on the market and our new acreage paid for so with the equity from our home we are building a cabin far off the road, digging a well, etc. will transition into part time or self employment as soon as our cabin is completed. We both grew up on farms with animals but got caught up in debt, financing, careers and typical life issues but have just had enough of it all. Wish us luck!! Glad to be here and hope to learn a lot from you all.

Wonderful! Congratulations on the land and getting out of the expected rat race and into the life you wish for.

Hope this forum, and the wonderful members here can help you along the way.

Of course, you do know, that photos now before you start, and photos along the way, and photos when you're living there - are always appreciated.

We are excited!! I'm leaving law enforcement and technology careers and she leaves nursing career and away we go. Will be living semi-debt free and working part time and farming to be mostly self sufficient.

The modern way of life and society sucks. Just can't take it anymore. Lol

Hello... from the Cumberland Plateau!

We're still looking for our place to call home, mostly thinking Fentress County but looking at maybe Morgan, Putnam or Cumberland counties just depending upon what makes itself available.

Good places are hard to come by. Not so great places are pretty easy to come by. And people that have good places seem to know it because they want big bucks for them.

But we continue to search.

We happen to think TN is a good state to put down roots.

Enjoy...Tennessee is beautiful - lived in Hermitage and traveled all over that state! (and no income tax if I'm correct?)
