Food Storage Calculator

The Mormon Church has a food storage calculator that will help you to figure how much of what kind of staples should be stored for a year. Just checked mine and I don't have as much as I need, but more than I thought I had.

Thats a cool site, thanks. I too have more than I thought I had for the 2 of us. On the other hand, when I calculated what I'd need if the kids and grandkids hightailed here in an emergency, I'm way far short of our needs. I'm going to forward this to them so they can take care of themselves if they need too.

Hmm seems a little lite in the water dept, and I'm thinking a little meat, dehydrated or canned citrus fruits, wouldn't hurt either. Oh and I'm sorry but there has to be a sustitute for lima beans. Still a good site to get a feel for the amounts you'd be looking at. The best reserve you can have is a large pantry you use and renew.

I go somewhat heavier in the water area. I collect rainwater and have 28,000 gallons storage.

As for the beans - change what is suggested for what you eat. I think if your legume storage matches the final legume tally you should be OK. Since I raise sheep, rabbits and cattle I am OK in the protein area. I just have to convince Maribelle the cow that I could eat her bit by bit I'd have better storage.
