Soil Surveys on the Web!

Just thought some of you would be interested in knowing that you can now access USDA soil survey maps and related soils information on the web. The Website is: http://websoilsurvey.nrcs.usda.gov/app

I tried it and it didn't seem to work for me. It probably still has some bugs to be worked out. Remember when using the site that not all soils have been mapped in the USA, so perhaps you'll not be able to find the info on your property.

The library where I work has soil survey books on quite a few of the kansas counties, but I don't think it has all 105. Many have been updated since the earlier ones came out anyway.

I frequently use the local book or use the maps in them to help others see aerial views of their property. Kind of like a print "Earth Google".

Elevation lines, water drainage, wetlands, and of course soil type are just a few more uses as they were intended.

Heads up....the Soil Surveys are now on-line because the printed maps are going to be discontinued so keep the web site handy.
