Any one near Charlotte NC with A/C experience?

Need someone with a/c experience our Carrier unit just up and stopped today. Both my daughter and wife have asthma and this 100 degree inside temp is making it hard for them to breathe.

E-mail me at healthwizard@surfbest.net

first thing check all breakers
second turn unit on and go outside and make sure the fan on top of the unit is coming on. not the fan that blows in the house the one visible on the top of the unit. if it isnt thats your problem. anyone can replace that fan motor its extremely easy
go look at the thermostat. many newer models and some older ones have a lil tiny red light that will blink. count the blinks and call your service guy. this is the same as the check engine light on older vehicles it is providing a code for you to troubleshoot with

make sure the unit outside isnt blocked by weeds etc and that the cooling fins have been sprayed really clean.

if yours has the coil in the house in a closet like enclosure or behind the panel by the electric heat and squirrel cage then check those fins as well. clean with your toilet brush.

all of these are things that will stop one from cooling and can be done by anyone with a hand and eyesight

Outside fan not turning. All fins seem debri free, cleaned out drain tube, The compressor makes a clicking sound but does not come on, outside fan turnes easily by hand.

Sounds like you have a voltage problem. There should be a box outside by your unit. The power cord will be running to it. You probably have a fuse blown.

Kenneth,
Your start capacitor is a dual capacitor and it is blown. That is why the fan will not run and the compressor will not start. The repair is about $14. You are welcome!
