Who will eat sunflowers?
Whick species of animals do you know of who will eat unshelled sunflower seeds?

Squirrels
Raccoons
Most any rodent type mammal

Birds mostly will ravage sunflowers for their seeds.

Ahhh...lol

I dont think you could keep them protected from birds and rodents, OR grow enough to make it worthwhile to feed anything with them.

I grew mammoth grey this summer, with the hope of feeding a few heads at a time to the laying hens this winter, as a treat.

I grew some mammoths this year too, just for fun. The rabbit loves them, and the chickens get them too. I regularly feed black oil sunflower seeds to my horse (unshelled).

We have 50 acres of sunflowers this year. They are contracted to go to Spain as confections. Neighbors have said cows love to graze on the frozen stalks after they are combined/harvested. Farmer hubby about went nuts planting them. The seeds are so fluffy they are hard to make go through the planter at a consistant rate. They are drought resistant and we are waiting to see if they pay out as good as expected. If they do we will plant more than 50 acres next year. So far the birds haven't bothered them but it ain't over yet.
