Windy's turn for 'nadoes?

Heads up central/eastern Ks.; looks pretty tough outside for you right now. I hate when these storms come up at night and you can't see. Be aware and careful; don't need no "heroes" out there!

Weather

A tornado warning was issued but warning sirens never sounded. The funnel that was spotted as well as rotation in another area were both about 3-5 miles away.

We did keep the library open a few extra minutes last evening rather than forcing people out into the storm.

A few miles away there was hail and strong wind. All we received was heavy rainfall which flood the streets in some areas, just a few inches deep to 12" deep. Nothing major. Better storm drains are in the works at great cost.

I enjoy watching the spikes of water flow in streams, creeks, and rivers in Kansas at: http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ks/nwis/current?type=flow

The Arkansas River gets quickly fed with Hutchinson storm runoff and also by Cow Creek. This shows the trememdous spike of inflow.

Cow Creek-- http://waterdata.usgs.gov/ks/nwis/uv...cd=00065,00060

The rain that falls a county or so away will again create a spike when it reaches this area.

The above sites also have precipitation monitoring so that a person can tell what other areas are receiving.

I expect every state has this data available if you will seek it out.

Damage

I turned the television on a little while ago to watch the news and discovered that 4 out of 7 television stations out of Hutchinson/Wichita are off of the airwaves. Haven't a clue why unless the wind or flooding did them in.

ElDorado has taken a pretty good hit on flooding according to the evening news.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Heads up; got tonight and tomorrow to go through. We have 50% chance of storms tonite and 80% chance here. If we're gonna get it I bet you do too. You on "high ground"? I truly feel for El Dorado; they have more rain forecast. It was so dry here for so long and now here come the mosquitoes again. Been picking blackberries and corn in shorts without bug spray but had to break out a new can this afternoon for my customers and myself! Gas for the riding mower is no joke; we average $35-40 a month on mowing before it got so droughty around here. Here we go again...
