Does anyone belong to the Grange?

I was talking to the local Grange members of the county next to me, and they suggested I join. Does anyone here belong, and is it worth the fees?

Nans31,

I go to the local Grange hall (It's one county over) once a year when they host our beekeepers club annual banquet. They do it as a way to raise money and seem like a nice bunch of people. Other than that I don't know much about them.

Don't know about other granges. The one I joined with my parents in the early 60 s was so laughingly out dated and silly.Something like a Little Rascals
era club, with secret signs and marches ect.
It was disbanded and sold a couple years ago.
It served a purpose years ago,but times changed and it(our local) didn't!!
The people where great, but what a waste of time

I'm half tempted to join our local Grange. From my understanding, they have a meeting once a month, and have a treat afterwards. During this meeting, they send out cards to the local people who are sick.

And our local grange sure can cook!!!! They put on dinners for different organizations, and their homemade noodles are to die for.

Sadly, the majority of people in the grange are all older and retired. Of course, they are the ones with extra time on their hands while us workers work Monday - Friday.

If interested in joining, find out when their monthly meeting is, and go. You should be able to find out at that meeting if it's something you would like to do or not.

We went to a grange convention over in Burlington a couple of years ago... mainly seniors and very nice people who were more than anxious to get the 40 somethings interested in joining.. but we never quite managed to get it together to follow through.

I think like any service organization they vary by region or group involvement.

I just looked at their website and they don't have any chapters in Alabama.

Here's the national web site if anyone is intersted in findind one in their state.
http://www.nationalgrange.org/about/states.htm
Surprising they're not in every state really. Cooking and sending cards out to sick is great, but I was thinking along the lines of becoming more educated on agricultural issues since the primary legislative objective is to represent rural residents of agricultural communities. I'm told the youth program is great, but have yet to find anyone in my county who belongs!I haven't sent in my "application" yet, but considering it.
