Wow this is interesting. I read up on their website and the "footer" is built in to the bottom of the wall, and you put it on the gravel "pre-footer" as they call it. Definately something I'll have to keep in mind for my home (years in the future, unfortunately).

Are you doing the work yourself or do you have a builder/contractor?

We are the General Contractors & we have a builder hired to do quite a bit of the work.
The house is panelized, so it will be fairly quick to get it under roof.
The fun begins in getting the drywall, insulation, electric, plumbing, etc....done....AND getting it all inspected in a timely manner.

As my grandmother used to say, "We shall see...."

We put our log home on a Kistner basement 8 years ago. The Kistner is the same principal, just sections that bolt together, no footers etc. We have been really happy with this sort of basement and talk about quick and easy, it's the way to go.
Congrats on your home,

Carol K

Hi Heather, I'm curious, are you going to back-fill the foundation walls on the side with no windows? DH and I have still not ruled out a Deltec, but we will be off the grid and I'm still drawn to the SunPlans that are designed specifically to be passive solar. I will follow your progress with great interest, thanks for sharing!!!!!

Yes, it will be backfilled with gravel

Can't do it until the entire house is under roof

The weight of the house is needed to make sure the superior walls don't move

However, I don't think they could if they tried, because of the angles!

Now THAT is a slick design, Heather. I have to admit, when I first looked I thought you scrapped the design and turned it into a swimming pool...LOL If I'm not mistaken, your entire basement is free from lallys or any other type of support post with the single exception of the center post thanks to the truss work yes/no? Only problem you may have is telling the kids to go stand in a corner if/when they misbehave...

Is this going to be a single story above the basement or are you going two up on top of the basement walls?

If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, I could pay for another story on top of the first!!!

But since no one's handing out nickels, we're just doing one story on top of the basement, which will be plenty for us......

And, you're right - no load bearing walls anywhere in the house, because of the floor & roof truss systems

we'll be doing inside work later

to begin with hubby cleared the land with 1 other friend
150+ white pines cut down & moved & stacked

there isn't much we can do right now
hubby works more than full time & I have the 2 little ones at home

for years we were totally into the idea of cord wood - doing it ourselves - through many years of late night conversations we came to do it this way - it's right for our family right now & we're thrilled with the process

if you would have asked me 10 years ago if I would be paying someone to put up my vinyl sided house I would have told you you're crazy

I've had so many people ask me this question "aren't you doing any of it yourselves?"

I'm sure many people here on this forum think we're stupid or incapable or something, but whatever

I don't know how to drive a lull anyway

Oh Lulls are easy enough to drive..As long as the steering wheel doesn't come off while you're driving them... in the dark.....At 3 a.m. ... on a closed small town airport runway... Umm.... Never mind...Forget I mentioned anything... They're easy enough to drive...
