Polk Co. Wisconsin info

Is anyone from around the Polk Co WI area? I’m looking at a job prospect in Osceola and would like to know more about the area, any info you have to offer would be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with that area, but the Highway Patrol in WI gives very little leeway for speeding. Beware.

But if you must speed, do it in the direction in which the most traffic is moving. We used to go up to Oneida/Vilas county quite a bit and rarely saw too many out of state drivers pulled over during prime vacation season. The name of the county eludes me (and Polk is not ringing a bell) but one county is looking to shut down their school (only 1, maybe 2 in the county) as they cannot function under the state fiscal restraints. Legislature is spending a lot of time on nit things instead of the problems. They are trying to pass a property tax freeze and it is being touted/advertised as "saving" the taxpayer money. Yeah, about $11 per year which ain't much. So take look at the entire state as well as the county. Lots of nice property and unless you are in the high tourist areas (see above and Door county), real estate is probably reasonably priced. The tourist areas are being turned into condo land. Nothing like going to the northwoods to sit in your condo and look outside.

You will be very close to the Minneapolis-St.Paul area which will affect property values and taxes.
The city Yuppies are spreading out further and further. Perhaps you'd get the opportunity to buy low and a few years down the road, be able to sell high.

That area would give you more opportunity for family visits to big city stuff---if you enjoy that kind of stuff.
The Zoo, Science Museum, Theatres, Plays, ValleyFair (amusement park), Reniansance Festival....
