I'm Hot!

Got up at 5 a.m. so I could water garden/plants...was 96 degrees F by 10:30 a.m. Finally came in at 1:30 p.m. - couldn't stand it any more (but picked a huge batch of green beans!!!)

Temp at 4 p.m. CT is 104 deg F (without the heat index!!!) - Central USA.

Anyone else there suffering? How are you beating the heat?

It's hotter than Haddes here in GA. What state are you in? The humidity is horrible. I am really considering moving to WA or AK when the youngest turns 18.

Well, up north it isn't too bad today....but it has been hot a lot this summer here. Abnormally hot, not the reasonable temps. I'm used too. But, still better than the South it seems.

Baron's Mom, I laughed out loud when I read your title for this thread!! I mean, really!!

I'm remembering last year... Wet, cold Spring, cool Summer. Miserable garden with very little produce last year!

This year, Spring wasn't overly cold, wet enough... Summer is pretty darned hot (they're predicting 102 for tomorrow w/o heat index) and very dry. I'm doing my best to keep the garden hydrated. I don't care about the lawn, though there are silly people out there who are watering instead of letting the grass go dormant.

Looks like the storm that was passing through Ardie's area is staying up north (it also looks like it hit The Farm over in Ferryvill), so we won't be getting much precipitation soon.

And people still won't squash spiders with me! Hmph!

We're avoiding working outside in the heat of the day: start early a.m., quit for majority of day, get out and finish up in the evening.

Everybody, please be safe!

Pony!

It says 98 degrees out on my back porch, but it feels like 120 at least.
I'm sitting here dreading having to milk that cow. It's like sitting up against a big, hot cookstove with flies buzzing all around it.
Ahhh, the joys of country life.

It is horribly hot here in Louisiana...and the humidity is so thick you can't breath. We are buildingour own house , so staying inside is impossible...it's summers like this that make me really miss alaska.

104 in central Ks. and fools picking blackberries, can you believe it? I just finish with one car load and up pops another. In between times I decided to lay plastic in an old rock garden, partially dug out on one end by husband. Decided to put in a little pond. It's filled with water and rocks on bottom here and there. Nice place to stand - water well above my knees and in shade. Lovely!! Going to get cooler on Tuesday with chance of rain - can't wait! Sure miss that central air. Fans and window A/C going strong here; windy outside and windier inside! Cat's happy, though - that's what matters. I change shorts and undies every hour and THAT's how I stay cool!!

Hot and Humid in the Ocala National Forest - Florida

Today was actually a little better, some clouds in the afternoon with a threat of a storm to cool it off a little, only reached 94 degrees and 100% relative humidity.

Yesterday hit 97 with the 100% humidity and bright sunny, windless skies.. Wow... Interestingly, I was in town to soak up some air conditioning and see friends. While my car was parked in a parking lot for about two hours, I came out to find it had gotten hot enough inside the car that the factory glue that holds the rearview mirror to the windshield had melted and the mirror fell to the floor.

I am saving on hot water, though, as none is needed for showers, all pure cold water, thank you. Since the water table is so close to the surface, it never gets really cool this time of year.

A nice downpour would be nice just to cool it off a bit. In June, there were 23 days with rains. I would gladly take one now.

I think I will put on some black pants and a white shirt, go to the zoo and see if I can sneak into the penguin cooler for a while. I will be the tall one in the back.

Close to 100 here so to cool off I fired up my welder and torches and did some repair work on farm equipment.
I think I'm Sam McGee reincarnated.

I did go in the pool to cool off and we did turn the A/C on mainly because everyone was getting on each others nerves.

As my old Granny use to say 'It's hotter than the hinges of Hades". Wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so humid. After living in the desert for 15 years, I'm still not use to this.

I'm inside with the AC going. Resorted to the old mobile home trick of taping aluminum foil to my west facing windows, shiny side out to reflect the heat. It did seem cooler afterward but now my neighors think I'm either a tweeker or that I'm hiding out from the cosmic rays.

Got to pick the right spot.

Dog got me up as normal about 7 am. Was cold outside, felt like the fall, everything covered in heavy dew. Been reasonable all day, we normally don't get much over 80F. Really never get that oppressive humidity. Typical lows at night have been in the 60's F. Long term locals say it really cools off after August, so only one more month.

Trick in Ohio is to be up in elevation and have some hills and trees around. Avoid big cities. Avoid the areas down by the Ohio River or low lying areas with water. Stay away from Central Ohio with all that haze and heat, ---- it was hot in Columbus over the 4th of July at my nephews. I-70 was boiler on wheels and me with no A/C in the car and my pup in the back seat.

Must have got it right, rewiring the house, didn't want to use any AC until I get switched over to the new service. Been comfortable with just using fans. The new low E windows help as I get them installed, really cuts down that room heating from direct sun rays.

I don't like it too hot and I don't like it too cold. And I don't like earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, forest fires, mud slides, too much rain, not enough rain, mosquitoes, bugs.

Nice four seasons with a fairly short snow season. Nice crisp fall if you please

So far doing ok on all of them.

We hit 100º today with high humidity. I can't recall ever having 100º here before. Wasn't unusual in So. IA when I was a kid, but usually never go above 98º here. Thank God for central air. DH has breathing problem and cannot tolerate the heat. I hung out laundry and it dried about as fast as I pegged it up. Picked beans after they got in the shade at 5:30 p.m. It so much easier to work outside when you know you can come inside and cool off. Supposed to continue hot thru Tuesday.

Its been in the 100s here in MO for days, try not to go outside unless I have to, like feeding critters ect... The humidity is horrid, I don't remember a summer this bad here before, at least not for a long time, have the air going by 9am, never had to do that, all fans going full blast, and still hot in the house, even the horses all came up sweaty yesterday just standing around, and had to go buy the dogs a pool to cool off in!!!! Its suppose to cool down starting Wed. but then goes back up in the 90s again. I want Winter!!!!!!

Just northwest of St. Louis here and MAN! is it hot. Heat index yesterday was 112 and the forecast for today is 115-120!! Everything is as dry as a bone. We've been watering the garden and the herb garden sparingly but sure could use some rain.

Went to a wedding yesterday at 3 p.m. We all went out to blow the bubbles for the bride & groom and it was so hot that everybody went outside for about 3 minutes, blew the bubbles, out came the couple, everybody piled right back in the church! LOL. They had the A/C at the reception hall cranked down to 55 and it still couldn't keep up. Those of us brave enough to do the Chicken Dance, Macarena and the Hokey-Pokey were dripping - whew! They ran out of punch, almost iced-tea & soda and had BIG pitchers of ice water for everybody. Then the gal serving at the reception says "my, everybody sure came thirsty, didn't they?"

AHHHHHH - St. Louis area in the summer - gotta love it.

Well, heat index at 10:30 a.m. in lovely Nebraska is already a balmy 94 degrees. Humidity worse then yesterday. But, I have to go out now and mow my "weeds" - oh well, maybe the mosquitos are cooking!

Did see our forecast for next week though - mid-70's with 70% chance of rain on Tuesday - FINALLY...then beautful the rest of the week - upper 80's. Can't wait!!!!!
