Herons or egrets in Wisconsin.

We have at least two dozen white herons on our pond right now. At last, that's what we think they are. They're perched in the trees and doing maneuvers too. Strange.

I've seen on or two of them on other ponds but never this number!

I wonder how the Canada geese like the company. We had three pairs raised their goslings and they're pretty big now. Did I mention that they did a good number on some of our neighbors corn? Oy vey! We must speak to him about that..maybe offer something.

Ardie, It would seem fair to give that poor neighbor a goose!

Uncle Will,
Ardie gets herself into enough mischief...without you telling her to go "goose" the neighbor!

Ardie, perhaps you could sponser a fall harvest festival of pond animals. Invite the neighborhood, and see that they all get a little goose, or even fried egret. It would be very neighborly of you to be sure they got it.

I think you're really lucky to see those magnificient birds! There is a strain of white Great Blue Heron and I would be curious to know whether the birds you are seeing are these birds or the Great Egret. While Herons are common here(two species) the Great Egret is just a sometime visitor.

Pictures would be cool!

I have never seen a white heron in these parts. There are areas of great numbers of Blue Herons on parts of the big lake.
My pond has white large bird visitors occasionally in summer. They are Pelicans....and they ravage the minnow population.

We haven't seen any this year but in past summers we have seen a fair number of the little white African cattle Egrets.
