How's Your Hay

After Cherrie C's tractor question I was wondering how everybodys hay is doing. We got 234 1500lb round bales off our 27 acres( I think) in East Michigan. Over here in West Michigan we just got our first rain in a month or so and things are bad. Probably only 2 cuttings this year but both look good in East MI. Hay is 1.50$ for square and the 1500lb round bales are 55$.

Wow, that's great. We got 120 rolls on 25 acres of mostly fescue, orchard grass and clover. We expect to cut it again in September.

Its been bad enough here in Stueben county that many people have said they aren't going to have a 2nd cut. But we have had one week of rain, so maybe.

All but about 60 bales didn't get rained on this year. It seemed like we had rain every week. I just finished the last, we only get one cutting. Normally I'm all done by the third week in June, but not this year. The last field was seeded last year, so we got 1/2 ton per acre which is not bad considering the owner never put any fertilizer down. Most of the hay went over a ton per acre, which is pretty good for our area. It's a good thing my cows aren't too picky about what they eat.
