moved free house

Sometime back I posted the exterior of the house that was given to me for moving. Recently I have been working on upgrading the interior in preparation for renting the house. I read often here about people wanting a home and I have tried to promote the idea of obtaining a free or nearly free home and moving it. Doing so is one of the best methods I know for obtaining a nice home for cheap. If anyone has any questions concerning a project such as this just ask. The house is 1960 sq ft and has 3 bedrooms and 2 1/2 baths.

Houses are in the way all the time of something new being built. It costs about $10,000 to tear one down & haul away in this EPA world we live in. So they try to give them away for little or nothing.

The thing is, you likely will be paying $20,000 or more to a moving co to move the house. So, you get an old used house with old wiring & plumbing & a pretty big bill for the foundation & moving costs.

All depends on what you want & what is available in your area.

I've been poking around for a house to move to my property. My problem is there are several spansion bridges on most roads between my property and civilization.

I did find one site that offers to barge houses to the nearest port, then move it to your property. That may be feasable, but our little fishing port is the most dangerous on the Pacific coast and I could lose my house to the fishes.

To obtain a home watch for areas that are being changed. The home I have was an agriculture area being converted into an industrial site. Recently a conversion of a residential area to a shopping center created some surplus homes. Now we have a road being shifted and there are a number of homes there going for a couple of thousand. It cost me $10000 to get the pictured home moved. It has none of the dated wiring or plumbing referenced above and is fully up to code in a stringent area. Setup and ready for occupancy the total costs were less than 30 percent of the home's appraised value. This amount does not allocate anything for my labor. If I had not been working there I would have been loafing here which does not pay anything either!

I tried this route too, but the cost of moving it took it out of the picture for me. Next time I have 15K-20K laying around though, I'm going to get one. There are so many available in the Atlanta area. The suburbs are growing so rapidly here. Your house is very pretty.

there is a good sturdy home planned to be demolished because a business wants to expand (they own the home and have for years) in our area. Houston, MO. the catch is, in MO you have to get a new moving permit every 4 miles due to narrow windy roads. I thnk it is 4 miles. We were going to buy a church and move it to our property to make into a house... the moving premits are what stopped us

That is a very cute little house.
I have been thinking of building a cabin or putting in a small mobile or something for my MIL. (She is considering putting FIL with Alzheimers in a home doesn't want to keep her big house) We might be able to find a small house and move it pretty reasonably though. Thanks for the idea!
