Will there be a Surge of Surplus Backup Generators after the Iraq conflict?

Just wondering if places like Coleman's surplus, Cheaper than dirt will have loads of surplus goods after we suceed in Iraq?

All those Generators their using over there, do you think there will be a increase in surplus generators, when this conflict is said and done?

I sure hope so!

My guess is no. Reasons being a lot of material will probably be left in Iraq and the government has started rebuilding equipment at federal prisons. There's plenty of generators out there already for those that want to save a buck.

Going back a few years, the feds changed how they sell surplus property. Now it's managed by a contractor. From talking to folks who used to, note the used to, buy that stuff, it's not the deal it once was and there's a lot more hassle.

I wouldn't wait if you need a generator. Lots of dealers have used equipment for those looking for a deal. The big rental chains constantly sell stuff. As mentioned in another post a heavy equipment auction is a good place to find deals. Rock & Dirt is the newspaper that will give you all of that info.

No, First off many of the military generators are not standard voltages. The cost of shipping them back isnt worth it. On top of that there is little really comming out of military depots forsale, uniforms yea, some old 6x6 from time to time, A lot of civilian stuff used on militar bases yes, but overall its junk or rendered unusable sold as scrap. There was a time when you could get a Hummer from military depot, Hey they make some money to put back in the treasury, but no they are now scrapped out and cut up before being sold as scrap, You at one time could get older military radio, but no, some senator hear rumors you can listen (legally I might add) to cordless phones on one and he force the scrapping of usable radio's. You use to be able to get military pistols and non fully auto rifles, but they are now being melted down, military history and your tax dollars turned into scrap metal.

If you want a generator better bet is to look to domestic disaster area's a couple of months after the storm or earthquake happens.

Depending on the size and your budget, Lowes and home depot now sell whole house gensets for a few thousand dollars.
