Shower trap removal? Help!

Hi Everyone!

I'm trying to remove the drain trap in my shower. It is clogged and I need to snake it or something... The problem is, I can't figure out how to get the darn thing off!!

I"ve looked online, I called my contractor friend...neither were much help.

I"ve tried turning it, but I can't get a decent grip on the thing without breaking it!
It's a fiberglass shower stall, and the trap is very thin metal. (It is a mobile home- although it is one of the newer models. I don't know if that makes a difference in materials/plumbing methods used)

How can I get this thing out???
I *really* want a shower.

Thank you!!
Dana

PS. As I seach the 'net, I realised that I wasn't very clear. I"m talking about the "hair trap" on top of the drain (filter, screen, whatever you want to call it) ...not the s-shaped trap.

Hi,

You can't get a snake down the tub drain, but you can snake
your drain by removing the tub /bath-shower flipper.

There should be two screws to remove. I hope this helps

This is just a shower stall, not the shower/bath combo.

I've already wrestled the bath tub into submission.

I'm working in the master bath, where we have a big bathtub, and then a seperate shower stall. The kid's bathroom has the combo.

Um...nevermind. .... I got it. Thank you.

I feel like an absolute idiot.
The metal screen looked like it was attached, it felt like it was attacked, but it was just jammed down in the drain. I ended up breaking the durn thing tryin gto get it off, and then examined how it went in.

:haha:

My shower now drains again!!! Yippeee!!

I'm relatively sure that the screen just "friction -fits" into the drain opening. Place a srcew driver into one of the holes in the screen and pry it up.

They sell a gismo that works great at removing hair from shower and sink drains. I can't remember what it's called, but it looks like a plastic saw blade about 2 feet long. It cost about a buck. The sharp edges on the flexible plastic strip catch the hair so it's all easily pulled out of the P-trap.
