estimate this acerage please

Hey folks i just paced of a piece of land today that im getting from my pop most likely... Im sure i could measure it but i was lazzy and it was blowing snow today even though its mid march so i tohught this would be fast and somewhat acurate within an acre probably.

Ok the field is a rectangle 250 paces on one end and 200 on the other
and its about 1500 long on both sides

im six feet tall and cover about 6 feet every three paces.

based on my info and your assumptions how many acres do you think this patch would be im guessing 25 to 30, maybe im way off in my calculations probably closer to 10

thanks rick

That's a confusing story problem you've provided cr, are you saying you have one side 1500 feet, the second side 250 paces, the third side 1500 feet and the fourth side 200 paces?

You might want to actually measure your pace, the best way is to walk normally counting every other step. My pace is a bit over six feet and I'm six feet tall. Pacing is really pretty darn accurate on fairly level ground. Once you have all your figures you can do the math. An acre is 208.6 x 208.6 feet or 43,514 square feet.

So, assuming one side is 500' then 1500' then 400' then 1500', I come up with about 15 and a half acres.

My calculations puts it in the neighborhood of 16 acres.

My calculations put it at @ 31 acres.

1 acre = 43560 (5280 * 5280 / 640)

1 pace = 2 feet

so 200 paces = 400
250 paces = 500
1500 paces = 3000

equals about 1,350,000 square feet (drawn and calculated in AutoCAD Map)

1350000 / 43560 = @ 30.991735

Based on my calculations, it would be 31 acres. I assumed 1500 paces on the sides(not feet) and it being at least roughly a rectangle.

Don't know why I read the 1500 as feet when he'd given everything else in paces, but I concur.

1500 paces - 31 acres
1500 feet - 15.5 acres

Is the mentioned '1500', paces or feet? I assumed it was feet in that paces were mentioned for the ends.

The math will be easy if you can supply better numbers.

Can you tell us the converted 'feet' of each side? You paces are very small at 2 feet, so hard to go ahead with that.... Kinda out in left field....

Also, it is not a rectangle if one end is 1/5 smaller than the other. You are saying it is somewhat wedge shaped?

Why not just ask your Dad for the acreage of that field? He'd more than likely know.

I'm sorry, nobody ever told me there was going to be math here.

thanks for everyones concern here are three pics the first one shows the bottom end theres more feild behind the pic but im not greedy so the red line is the southern border
http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs20&d=05114&f...ngupathill.jpg

the second pic is on the hill looking down towards where i was standing to take the first pic, i plan on having a nice big pond right at the bottom of the hill, you may notice the already present stream in the pic

http://xs.to/xs.php?h=xs20&d=05114&f...wnfromhill.jpg

the third pic is from the bottom of the hill across the stream, this will probably be the opposite shore of my pond, you can see the appilachian mountains in the left background, there not very big where i live

The length of the pace posted is not that of a 6 ft person. A 6 ft. person would have a pace closer to 3ft. Try it and you will see

If his pace is three feet, then that field might be closer to 69 or 70 acres. I'm only 5'3" and my pace is around thirty inches, so three feet is probably pretty close to right for someone six feet tall. It might depend if he was walking in deep snow, though.

Hey all when i said 1500 for the length i meant paces for that as well, i was walking in snow, but i guess they were probably more like 2.5 to 3 feet becuase the snow was pretty hard and i was walking pretty briskly
