Farm Tags, Texas

Okay, for those living in Texas, exactly what are the benefits of getting farm tags on your truck?
Looking at the form, I can easily meet the rules, but what exactly do I get from this besides having to carry a sack of feed in the back when I going fishing? :haha:

I know they probably cost a little less, but since I have about 10 months left on the current tag, that is not an issue... so, what else?

Rowdy

(oh, and Fordy, thanks for the info on the truck post, forgot to thank you.)

..............Farm Tags cost 6.30 per year . I had ...4...sets of farm tags that I use on my farm trailers . Licensing a small , 2 axle , 16 foot trailer is an expensive proposition in Taxes\Texas... I also have a Ranch truck tag on my old 77 ford which saves alittle , but Not much . Really , there's not much you can DO to KEEP your Money in YOUR pocket , today . I have since sold all my trailers but will be building a Heavyduty , 2 axle tongue pull trailer as i get my mad money together . A trailer like I need\want is about 36oo and I can build one for about half that amount .
..............A major area of savings happens when you buy a Trailer for "FARM" use because You don't have to pay SALES TAX on the purchase . In fact , Everything , purchased for farm use is ...Sales tax free.....fordy...

Money is the major benefit. I don't have farm tags on my pickup, since our main place is in the city. But my tandem trailer, which stays at our place in the country, has a farm tag.

Certainly the reason to register as a farm vehicle or trailer is the considerably lower cost of registration. Even though our goat trailer is mostly for farm use, DH prefers for me to pay the higher rate so that he can also use it for other things. Falsifying government documents is considered a serious offense, I believe. Moving those plates around trailer to trailer(I know, I know, you were just kidding, fordy) is NOT a good idea.

I registered one of our trucks & all the trailers farm, but before registering the truck, I asked, to be sure what the rules were. She told me that you can do almost anything in a farm truck except drive it to work or use it for anything that you get paid for.
You can drive it to Wal Mart, take the kids to school, go to church, go to the doctor, go deer hunting....everything that's not considered commercial use.
