Solid waste/septic question

I knew a guy once who made a large pond, about 10 acres, and this is where their solid waste from the house was pumped. They would also pump their drinking water from this same pond, though at the house there was a filtering station and bleach was added mechanically to a holding tank.

Any Idea what this system was called? I want to do some research on it.

Thanks

I would call it a health hazard! In this country most refer to it as a municipal water facility
