Septic Survey
Well, it seems like every week or so there is a new question about septic systems, so I thought I would continue the trend. So here is my septic survey:
1. How much did your system cost?
2. Where do you live?
3. How big is your system (number of bedrooms, etc)?
I am getting ready to put my own system in, as soon as I get my installer's licence and permit next month, and was just wondering what people spent on theirs...

four bedroom sizing, 1200 gallon tank, leach field, distribution box and full hookup was $2000 including backhoe rental. Did ourselves. Quotes were $4000 to $5000 for a turn key install from an installer.

Ours was installed in 2001 by the previous owners at a cost of $15,000. There is a 1,000 gal tank with 1000 feet of drain field. House was 5 bedrooms when this was put in but we remodelled to 4. It is an aerobic system.

and there you have it - the difference between the west and east. Over regulated, high density population centers increase cost whereas under regulated low population density results in low cost. very few mound type systems here but as north idaho becomes californicated, the regs and resulting costs will be coming.

You have to send me a drawing of this! :haha:
I might just make a grey water system rather than insisting that my greywater goes to water flowers in our yard: summer and winter.

Oh my gosh! Yes, I know Kai and Bridget. He's a fabulous log cabin builder, musician, and person! He lives about a mile or so down the road from us. We've gone to the same church and heard him and Bridget play and sing several times. So how do you know him?

AZ rates: I know cause that's what I do
1000 gallon shallow system $3550 3 bedroom
deep $3790
1250 gallon shallow $3890 4 bedroom
deep $4130
Hardly ever get bigger systems than these two. Shallow would be for an above ground mobile home, deep for groundset MH or site built home. These are with leach lines. I don't have a rig to drill seepage pits. Around here about everything leaches, Haven't had to do any engineered systems.

A friend in Texas had this system installed to replace his existing system that did not work because of texas clay soil.
Has had it a few years and is quite happy with it.
Expensive at first but worth checking out so later problems don't exist.

My septic was installed in 2000. Perc test was $200 + the cost for a backhoe (another $200).
The septic system was $3200 including the permits and inspections.
Its a 3 bedroom house, the tank is 1000 gallons and the drain field is 75 feet.
I live in Three Lakes Wisconsin.
Today, a conventional septic system in this area is around $4500. A mound system starts at around $9000.

I pretty much think Cabin Fever was Joshing, but in reality, County/State code for one type of grey water system just calls for one "plastic" 50 gallon drum and 10' to 20' of 10" plastic drain tile. A couple of hundred bucks would do the job and leave plenty for a fishing trip.
Buts thanks for reminding me that "Big Brother" and his little helpers are always out there keeping an eye on all of us.

Bought a singlewide back in 1980...best advice I got was to put in a bigger septic than I needed in case I ever wanted to upgrade to a doublewide or had a family. Instead I sold the property last year, but the mobile home company would not have purchased it if it had a smaller septic as they sold it to someone buying one of their double wides and it already had the correct sized septic so no major permits or impact fees were needed.

I have known people to dig a pit, unlined and push an old vehicle into it. Then run their blackwater line into that and cover it all up. They run grey water off on the ground elsewhere. So for them the cost was basically their own labor. Unless the county catches them! I think there is a pretty hefty fine for this and I am NOT reccomending it!
