brass reaction to leather

The brass ends of my Schrade lockblade kept in the leather sheath tarnishes or corrodes. Due to this problem I normally do not store them together. Is there any way to prevent the tarnishing? I had wrapped the blade in paper (similar to how it came when new) but found that to be annoying. I have the same concern with brass cases and holsters.

Thanks in advance for any feedback, Brian.

Wax

I thin layer of wax helps, short of using a clear coat finish. Polished brass sure looks like gold doesn't it?

Polyurethane?

Since it is only a cosmetic problem and not a problem with the blade itself, why not clean and shine the brass like you want it, then seal it in a coat or 2 of polyurethane?

Black powder guns often tarnish in their holsters. I believe you can still get "Brass Coat" from the Dixie Gun Catalog it was recommended as the best coating for brass a while back.
