I have Siberian pear trees growing now for over 10 years. They've never had peas or blossoms yet!
When I took a course in ecology and field biology many moons ago, the teacher from Missouri mentioned stuff like buckbrush and coral berry feed deer. Sheep eat top buds of small pine trees. Birds like grouse eat tons of aspen buds. Moose browse on new growth sapllings of alder and poplar. I suspect goats would make good use digesting such things, too.
