Carnation Milk
For those of us who have vivid memories of life in the farmlands . . .
Subject: Carnation Milk
When opening a can of Carnation evaporated milk for your recipes just smile
and think of this...
A little old lady from North Carolina had worked in and around her family dairy farms since she was old enough to walk, with hours of hard work and little compensation.. and when canned Carnation Milk became available in grocery stores, she read an advertisiement offering $5,000 for the best slogan/rhyme beginning with "Carnation Milk is best of all...." and she said, I know all about milk and dairy farms... I can do this!
She sent in her entry, and about a week later, a black limo drove up in front of her house... a man got out and said, "Carnation LOVED your entry so much, we are here to award you $1000, even though we will not be able to use
it..."
Here is her entry:
Carnation milk is best of all,
No tits to pull, no hay to haul,
No buckets to wash, no sh*t to pitch,
Just poke a hole in the son-of-a-b!

carnation milk
all I know is I was raised on the stuff- way back before there were formulas. My mom also used to make ''poor man's whipped chream'' I believe she chilled it added a bit of lemon juice and whipped it adding some sugar.Weused it for coffee until; I began to have it black.Never buy the stuff now[ don't know why]- but it was a staple when I was a kid.

Maybe so, but then Pet milk must also.
When I was in elementary school we took a field trip to the local Carnation plant where they made evaporated milk. After seeing the whole process, I noticed that the conveyor that carried the unlabeled filled cans split into two smaller conveyors, which went to two different labeling machines.
One labeling machine was putting Carnation labels on the cans and the other labeling machine was putting Pet labels on the cans. Since it was evident to me that any one of those cans could have randomly found their way into either labeling machine, I realized that there was no difference between Pet evaporated milk and Carnation evaporated milk.
Confused, I asked the tour guide about the labels, and why they didn't just label them all Carnation. He replied that it involved marketing concepts that I was too young to understand.
I'm older than I'll admit, and I'm still confused!

Love it!
We were dairy farms, milked 120, and had 225 head.
Great, thanks, laughing out loud.

Don't want to sour your milk, but unfortunately, this tale, like 99% of the spam forwarded by well meaning folks is false.

Bare,
I too believed it was a big bucket of hogwash but it was funny and I took it as just a bit of humor.
What's up? Did your wife wash your coffee cup? If she did, shame on her.

I can tell you drank some of that sour milk, didn't you?
The story is represented as true, when it is just an urban rumor that's been around for years. If you want to tell the story, or pass it on, have at it. Just don't send it to my e-mail box. I hate that stuff.
As far as anyone washing my cup, you tell me...

Loved it! It may be an Urban Legend, but it's a funny one! And I needed a good laugh after 2 guys were murdered outside my window this weekend.
Bare, can't tell from your picture, but your grumpy attitude says it was washed! Or knocked into the outhouse hole! lol

No way... I drank it before it soured. Grew up on it.

Yep, it still looks about the same as it did last spring.

TX, I think bare is just having a bad day. That cup wasn't washed or dropped into the outhouse hole, it has an even finer coffee patina to it now. :haha:
