The 30 point buck

The 30 point buck - Homesteading Questions

This once in a lifetime nontypical white tail buck was taken by my dad back in 1958. The deer head was mounted and brought a lifetime of happiness.

We always thought it was a 29 point buck until Boone & Crockett scored it sometime in the 60's. They confirmed it was a 30 pointer. It scored 232. I believe its the 4th largest non-typical ever taken with a gun in Wisconsin.

Hope your hunt produces pleasing memories.

a few years ago a neighbor got a very simular looking buck, I don't think it was as big but that rack was incredible... did your dad mount the rack?
super cool pic!

The buck was taken in Forest County south of Crandon, Wisconsin on my fathers own property.

In 1958, it cost a whopping $35 to get the deer head mounted. Approx 10 years ago, he had it re-caped. He used to lend the deerhead out to a couple of bars in the 60's, and the cigarette smoke slightly discolored the original cape. No longer does the mount ever experience cigarette smoke.

My father passed away in September at the age of 79. I can't begin to describe the long term happiness and joy this miracle of nature brought to him.
It is in my stewardship, until my passing, whereupon the next generation of my family will be able to experience the bounty that nature bestows upon us.

Hi Hoop. Not to take anything away from your Father's acomplishment: in 2003, a 15yr old black powder hunter in Indiana killed a buck that was rated at 38 non-typical points. I wish I knew how to post the pics. The fact that your Father's achievement lasted for 46yrs says a lot! I don't hunt for trophies, just for meat, but this young man's achievement is certainly notable. I understand that his Father has decided to Sell the pics to the highest bidder.

Hoop - my DH swears he has seen that picture of your dad before. He's originally from Park Falls and used to hunt in Oxbo. He thinks he saw the picture hanging up in a local saloon.

Very nice picture - it is no guess why your father was so proud of that animal. Thanks for sharing it with us.
