There is also an article on DIYnet.com regarding concrete countertops. I've seen a few of these countertops in person at fancy restaurants... and they're quite attractive.

Edward R. Hamilton, Bookseller (online and catalog) had a book for sale this last issue all about concrete countertops on sale.

I researched concrete countertops a month or so ago. Was real intrigued. Figured I'd plan on one in my 'dream kitchen'. Till I come upon some of the drawbacks. The staining issue...I always give a kitchen countertop the blood test...pour some blood on it, and see how the potential countertop handles it... Also, the heat issue...believe I read where heat pads needed to be placed on top.

I was thinking they were going to be bombproof. Not quite. And if you have to pay someone, your looking at prices higher than granite. DIY is a definite possibility, though.
