Navy Gearing up? Blockade???

I am hearing hints that our Navy is gathering for blockades of Iran and others? Maybe I have the wrong countries??? Anyone else getting word on this? I am not looking for a big tirade on politics here, just wondering who has family/friends in the navy and if you have heard anything.

As nuclear proliferation is a big world-wide problem I am thinking that other countries should be helping with this too.

Anyone have the skinny?

I just read your post to my husband who was in Viet Nam...

If you had posted something like this back then and you were North Viet Namese, you and your ilk would have been rounded up and shot for treason.

Hey Cathy, give your daughter a "hello" from us here in Oregon and a pat on the back. Thanks for asking her.

Well breezy, feeling a little out of sorts this morning? :waa: LOL I won't take offense as I only debate those with a brain and yours must take some time to get going in the mornings..... like me without my coffee. I recognize the symptoms. LOL

Firstly about "me and my ilk"..you have made me curious here. I think you have mis interpreted my post. Firstly..this info is not a secret...it's out on the news. I would just like more info than has been reported. If you had been on this forum for the last few years you would know that I am a patriot and have had both of my boys in the service..one is still serving.

Secondly: My oldest kid was with a SEAL Team for many years and has just been attached to the US Embassy in Canberra, in Australia. I am very proud of him and all of our people who volunteer to put their lives in danger so the rest of us can sit on our butts and criticize what they are doing in the rest of the world. I commend your dh on his service.

And then there is my first dh, a war hero, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, three Bronze Stars and aPurple Heart which by the way he earned the hard way..not by putting in his OWN requests and writing up his OWN stories..spent many, many months in the hospital and then was sent home in a wheel chair and then refused disability..rehabbed himself and RE ENTERED the army to go fight with his buddies. This guy was the father of my kids.

I consider myself a patriot...did I misunderstand your post? It's always possible as we cannot talk face to face and can't see the other's expressions or hear tone of voice.

So???????I am gearing up for more care packages than before..is anyone else still sending the same over seas?

LQ

LQ, May I ask where you're getting your hints? So, minus the "big tirade on politics", I'd like to just say this... any of you who DO have family/friends in/around the navy should not discuss ships' deployment schedules. They are kept from public for a variety of reasons.... one of the biggest being the safety of our sailors onboard those ships.

Please, let's not discuss this here.
Thanks, everyone!

...............LQ , I, really wouldn't worry about your question too much . Maybe we have some folks who think that , as they did back in the Cold War era , there is a Commie behind every Bush (no punn) . I'm wondering, WHY , has it taken the current adm. so LONG to confront Iran with it's misdeeds in this current war . I heard a reporter who said HE had seen the militants carrying NEW RPG's and New Ak-47(s) , i.e. New equipment . So , they are being actively supplied with adequate armaments and professional military leadership to conduct a very well coordinated plan of bombings and killing(s) to emasculate the implementation of the authority of the Newly established governamental structure . Which , is to say , they are showing HOW Ineffective the Bush Adm.....Is.....in not being able to install a government that can function on it's OWN behalf . .......fordy....

I have to disagree with you, fordy. It's not the "commie behind every bush" factor. It's the very real threat of terrorism looming over us today. "They" have intelligence people just like we do, and very often, many seemingly insignificant pieces draw a bigger, more significant, picture.

I agree that the media doesn't paint a clear picture, and usually not enough info to quell our curiosity, but they tell what they are told (albeit, sometimes a very slanted version). They tell all that the people "need to know" without endangering our military folks.

As far as I know our admin has been bringing this up at the United Nations Security Council for the last year. And we all know how inept they are. Just look at the Sudan. Sad.

I sure don't pretend to know the ins and outs of the problem..just curious about how big the blockade is apt to be, what other countries might be participating and if any have family who will be there.

I imagine we will be told shortly what ships will go etc. Unless of course it was inaccurate reporting..and we all know about that. Does CBS have a red face or what? LOL

I heard this discussed on talk radio down here in Texas (a Dallas station), so yes, this is public information.

My guess would be that what you're hearing visa vi where they are to be deployed is just speculation. The speculation I heard was that it was China/Taiwan and that the timing was to get there by the election in case Kerry gets elected.

back in the days when our enemies were restricted to humint discussion of ship movements were taboo for obvious reasons - with the range of intel available now to our enemies, from satellites to npr and cnn, its virtually impossible for ship movements not to be common knowledge -

hard to hide a ship - d***ed hard to hide a task force

Agree, once they mobilize. I just get concerned sometimes when the "kids" (to me, at least) in the navy tell there folks their deployment schedules (when, how long, scheduled liberty ports, etc.), and the folks talk to neighbors, and the guy down at the bar, and overheard by someone else, etc.

Security is still an important issue... maybe more now than ever in most of our lives. I'm not as paranoid as I may sound... I'd just rather be safe than sorry. Remember the USS Cole. That attack was planned long before she pulled into Yemen to refuel.

I can only hope that someone in this administration has figured out that we don't have the manpower to take on another war, which is what a blockade would be. By international law, which we have violated a few times in the past 50 years, a blockade is an act of offensive war and therefor unlawful. All signatories could be called upon to defend the attacked state. Not likely to happen, but the possiblilty is there.
As for ship movements, the public information lacks the specifics to be of more than superficial use to an enemy. The detailed information wouldn't be that much harder to get, afterall its hard to hide a ship, but that is a job for our counterinteligence people.

I suppose, since we don't have enough manpower for another war, we could send all of the commies hiding behind the bushes and all of the socialists who would rather lay down and sleep with the enemy and while we are at it we can send all of the shiites and sunies that were ready to start a war on our home soil shortly after 911!

Awe, but you all didn't know about the possible war on our own soil did you? No? Do you know why? Because while it was being investigated we were asked to be quiet because it involved some of our own military and it almost occurred in our back yard, while they were preparing our guys for deployment!

Well, don't look behind the bushes..... by the time you figure out your life is in danger it will be too late.

Loose lips sink ships was a nice reminder that yes there are peoples lives at stake and the media often gets ahold of information they aren't supposed to have either.
