What to do with ripe pears...
Does anyone have any great ideas as to what I can make with over ripe pears. These babies are perfect for eating, but I can only eat so many... Fruit leather? Pear ice? suggestions are greatly appreciated  I canned everything else but I don't want to waste these beauties!

If nothing else,juice em and freeze em.Just bought some real pears from a local guy,boy,real fruit,cant beat it.1 dollar/pound,WOOHOO!

I just finished making a pear cobbler. You make it just like you do an apple cobbler and it takes wonderful!!!!!! My neighbor has 5 trees that are loaded and asked me if I wanted all the pears. Guess I'll be freezing pears for the next few days.
If you'd like my receipe, I'll be more than happy to post it here.

you can make Perry which is the pear equivalent of cider and yes it will go hard and is mighty good too.

cut 'em in half,put them face down in a lasagna pan, pour about a cup and a half of sugar on them, plop a big blob of butter on top of each one and put into a hot oven (450-ish) for about 10 minutes, or until the sugar has caramelized, stir in one cup of whipping cream, and cook for 5 more minutes. There you have it, pears ala creme caramel - or something. pretty yumyy anyhow. also good on ice cream

I face that problem almost every year. What I don't grow my neighbor gives to me. I end up with LOTS of pears.
What I have ended up doing with the very ripe pears is putting them on the stove to heat (add enough water to prevent scorching) and then run them through the Squeezo strainer, in essence making pear sauce. Then I can it up for later use.
I no longer add any sugar to any canned fruit. What I do, is prep the new fruit for canning...maybe peaches, plums, cherries, whatever...and then add the pear sauce to both sweeten them and provide the fluid for canning.
No added sugar, after all those pears are plenty sweet enough. Makes use of what would otherwise go to the pigs. And mighty tasty!!!!!

Make pear butter, same as apple butter. Put into pretty jars and at the holidays, ribbon tie on a small square of calico on the lid, and use for gifts. Or if you belong to an organization or church doing a bazaar, could maybe use for that, depending on what state/local food laws are.

I just finished with the last batch of pears that I will can this year. I put up: pear jelly, pear butter, pear perserves, pear/orange marmelade, no sugar added pears, and 2 different recipes of pear butter. They are mostly recipes that I searched my recipe books and the web for. All have been tasted and they are all great. Already have a case ready for our daughter, son in law and 3 grandchildren plus Christmas presents for our pastor and a few close friends.

My mouth is watering from reading all of these post. My daughters & I make pear jam & preserves every year, then use the jars to fill holiday baskets for family & friends. We also freeze some for use during the winter.

BEST of all....make a pear pie....just use any apple pie recipe for the best pie you've ever tasted!!! And no one ever believes you when you say its pears...they just want more!!! DEE
