Here is one use for a hot tub! Grain bin



My hubby out did himself and even had the daughter help him paint it barn red. It works great, not sure how much it will hold. Ordered 1000 lbs, next time we will try 2000 lbs. Someone gave it to us in trade for four bunnies--what a deal :haha:

That's a cool idea, and you'uns did a great job. I think I'd like to have two hot tubs, so I could keep water in one of them. After picking beans, my back can use it!!!!
I didn't notice that you mentioned it--what livestock are you feeding? Must be large animals or a number of them. ....Margo

Unfortunately the old tub didn't hold water--wouldn't mind one though. Since we needed something to store feed in and didn't want to invest much, we used what we had.

We've been buying 50 lb bags of all the different feed for our animals; it was starting to add up. I decided to get an all-purpose mix and doctoring it up for each. I posted here earlier trying to get a recipe but ended up making my own, using what was available at the co-op. I believe it is around a 11-13% protein mix. Everybody seems to like it so far (chickens, rabbits, goats and pigs):

60% cracked corn
20% rolled oats
10% soybean meal
5% alfalfa pellets
5% molassas
trace mineral salt
AD&E vitamins

Chickens get it mixed with a 20% feed, kitchen scraps, range and oyster shells.
Rabbits get it mixed with pellets, garden greens and hay.
Goats don't get much unless pregnant/nursing or in the lot.
Pigs get a pork suppliment mixed in, but I think this will be their last bag of that as the garden is suppling a large source of feed right now.
