It's the weather GET USED TO IT BEING DIFFERENT ALL THE TIME.

Thats my thoughts ever since seeing the documentary narrated by Leonard Nimoy suggesting that our current environment is only a glitch in the normal planetary cycle

Besides, The Earth is more self-regulating than many give it credit for. As an Example:

Increased CO2 (greenhouse gas) --> Increased Plant Growth --> Increased CO2 Consumption --> Decreased CO2 (greenhouse gas)

This show about the magnetic poles switching is interesting too, and would also affect the weather.

I had a thought on this today while going to lunch and looking at the blacktop pavement where I work.

The grass is green, the trees and almost all vegetation is also. The pavement is usually black. Why can't we figure out a way to make it green also, then it will reflect rather than absorb the heat, similar to vegetation?

Green grass, leaves etc do not reflect heat and sunlight - they absorb it and convert the energy into sugars and starches. White and silver reflect the heat and light. White reflects the most over the longest time as a silver usually tarnishes to grey.

Let's start mixing chlorphyl in with our asphalt. That way the roads can produce sugars and starches. Forget about the "kreb's cycle."

Well I guess global warming is true it was 82 at 5 AM this morning. last night was the first night I ran the AC all night this year of course last week I used the furnace. Will be camping tonight so I hope it cools a little.

What gets me is to hear someone say, "the end of the ice age". Ice ages come and go, do they not? If yes, then we are at a certain part of that cycle. No one has hit the 'off-switch on the coming and going of ice-ages.

Note: This observation does not mean that I like smog :waa:

Green leaves do refect heat and light. The reflected green light (green wavelength) allows you to see them as green. Only a small percentage of sunlight get absorbed to make sugars and starches.

National Geographic had a huge layout on the Green House Effect this month and it's the first of a four part series. Don't know if you can look at it on-line. It was interesting reading.

Charles you are right about the green light being reflected, but then doesn't everything reflect light - some things reflect more than others. For many reasons green plants seem to cause more of a cooling effect rather than storing heat the way pavement does. Could be why its most often about 4-5 degrees cooler out here in the country than in the big city. I hate the city.
