Question is homesteading still legal in alaska?

is homesteading still legal. the kind where you get 160 acres and cultivate an eighth of it? with no buying?

Alaska.Nope!!! Canada you still might be able to but you have to become a Citizen,which I think takes 10 years.

Sorry but the natives have run out of land to be taken away and given to new homesteaders. You now have to purchase anything you want.

Congress abolished homesteading (or giving away land) in 1976 with passage of the Federal Land Policy and Management Act, which made it national policy to retain the public lands in Federal ownership. Modern homesteading (Homesteading Today) has come to mean living off the land, being self-sufficient, etc.

There are a few counties in Kansas that are giving away 1-2 acre lots for free if you build a house and live there for so long etc... Other then that, I don't know any other states giving away land.
