What's your favorite canteloupe?

Mine's an old timer called Dr. Jaeger's. Bite into it and it tastes like a honey coated sunbeam. Freezes nicely, too. After I found this variety at Shumway's, all others were mediocre. What's your favorite?

Charentais. Small, very sweet, ripens even at 6000 ft in colorado. The aroma lets you know they are ripe. But you have to be quik because Amos thinks they are heavenly.

I think the taste of Athena and ease of raising sweet melons make them my favorite.

I didn't know that there were different kinds. I usually get a pronghorn out in Wyoming.

Krenshaw species is my favorite, the ones served in the 5 star hotels.

melons

We planted crenshaw and casaba this year. How do we know when they are ripe? We like Hale cantaloupe the best. We started them in the greenhouse and transplanted to the garden in late June. We are finally getting our summer rains so they are very prolific.

Creme de la creme but I now need a good early melon. Is the Charentais an early melon and where do I get the seed? Sounds like what I need.
