Hard Water Filter for Well

My fiancée and I move into our house on Monday. The house has its own well and I have noticed hard water build ups in the dish washer, toilets, drains, etc. is there a way to attach a hard water filter directly to the pump on the well or is there another way I could combat this problem?

Water softener. We tried going with out one but there is really no good way around it. We bought one at homed depot and installed it ourselves.

You can't do anything at the well for hard water. You would need a water softener, which will live inside a space that doesn't freeze. Before investing, have the water tested so that you know the full story.

Water softener. Bags of salt.

It is't really a filter because the minerals are dissolved in the water. It has to exchange the minerals out.

Like Harry Chickpea says, have the water tested. Pay the money and have it tested by an independent lab that will look for agricultural and industrial chemicals, voc's and other nasty stuff as well as routine iron and minerals. Don't take the word of a water conditioner dealer.

We are not on well water. But, we bought a whole house water filter, a fluoride filter, and a magnet water softener from www.puriteam.com about three years ago.

Filter is washable, media is good for a million gallons, and softener requires no salt.

Took me almost two years to finally take the plunge and settle on what to buy and get it all paid for.

We've had it for about three years I think. And, been very satisfied with the changes it made.

I've never heard much good about a magnetic water softener.

Don't know how a magnet can get rid of hardness when it isn't removing anything.

Hard water is a generic term. You may have hard water with lime in it or iron or any number of other minerals. First step is to get it tested for hardness and see what you have. Different minerals require different treatments.

If the house has been empty for awhile, the water might clear up after it has been used more regularly.

Water magnets are right up there with fuel line magnets, copper bracelets and not stepping on cracks, IMHO.
