Round bale lifting

Can't remember if I asked this a while back so... Would a Farmall 300 (taller ag style) be able to lift a 1000 lb round bale on the back 3pt hitch, just high enough to drive with it?

I don't know, but be careful handling round bales. A friend's dad was killed when he picked up a round bale with the tractor and on uneven ground it rolled onto him, a terrible way to go.
There is some kind of tractor forum online, they'd know.

Yes, if your 3 pt is close to the tractor. I had a 2pt to 3pt adaptor which increased the length 2 ft and that made the front end light.

Lifting with a front end loader is what causes the most accidents. The bale can roll back over the steering wheel and crush you.

I've moved lots of them with a Ford NAA

Just keep it as close to the tractor as possible, barely off the ground, and go slow

Ask the fellas at ytforums.ytmag.com You will need to know the size of your round bale - they are not all the same.

Boy. Never tried that with my 300. Mine is the first year, not top link mount, so I couldn't do the 3pt anyhow to try.
the 2pt is pretty strong, but it doesn't lift very high. Their hydraulics are not very strong, lower pressure, so.

Good question. I'd guess it will do it, but be careful - I would guess your axles were replaced at some point? They put undersized axles on them, and then had a crystallized issue with the originals, the metal was heat treated a bit wrong, they broke off a lot.

Dad had both of then break off one while harrowing, the other while row cultivating.

Dang James, That would be a rude awakening lol. I once was howing in the garden and dad was harrowing beside me with a 38JD. All of a sudden the noise sounded hollower. I looked up, and the muffler was 10ft in the air above the tractor.

It worked great. Helps a lot that we can feed rounds now. I measured and they are 5'x4'7". What do u guess them to weigh. Alfalfa field but had a ton of weeds in it.

Weights are highly variable, but I'd suspect it's around 1000 lbs

Try Tractordata.com to find the specs on yours

As Case says...there are round bales, and then there are round bales.

You'll find them anywhere from 4x4 to 6x6 around here....most common being 4x5 here. We baled yesterday, and the guy that rolls mine rolls a really tight 4x5 bale that we figure runs in the 1000lb range. It's all my 41hp tractor front loader will handle. (I've tried 5x5 before, and it was scary).

I put a bale on a rear spear for ballast, and I can stack one on the front two high.

Probably around 750 lbs. Careful of the axles. Neighbor had one break on his 300 when he picked up to turn at the field edge with a springtooth on the 2 pt. The springtooth cultivator kept him from rolling over.
