Wasp nest

I have a very active wasp nest right under our field fence. Unfortunately, it is next to our watering area and the pig mud hole. We keep pigs and chickens. I need to get rid of the nest. If it were anywhere else, I would not hesitate to use wasp spray. I am concerned about the pigs and chickens getting poisoned by the spray. We have an electric strand about 8 inches off the ground but both pigs & chickens can get to the nest - at least to some degree.

I am looking for recommendations on how to get rid of it. Thanks!

In the ground? Several ways, some better than others. One is to pour honey over the area and hope a skunk digs up the nest. Another is to put a clear glass bowl over the entrance and exit holes, takes a couple days but they eventually starve out. (has to be a clear bowl, if they see the normal exit is covered they'll dig another) Another way is wait until after dark then pour a little gas in the hole, wait a few minutes then toss a match in and jump back, POOF!!! Or you can wait until after dark and spray some wasp/hornet killer spray in the hole and cover with a barrel or something to keep your animals out of the nest area.

This is NOT one of those big oval shaped hornet's nests about a foot and a half long, right?

For inside, German yellow jackets and individual hornets I get a spray bottle, fill it with 91% ALCOLHOL, not the less strong kind and spray (don't use around any open flame, just sounds unwise). It may spot furniture but I get really ill from spraying bug spray around. I used this to mist spray a wasp nest under our propane tank top and it worked well. It does not work well inside of walls unless you can have access to saturate the nest or wasps.

If I spray a wasp or yellow jacket it usually takes several sprays and a minute or so before they fall. Then awhile longer before they die. Be careful!

*I also use this alcohol to spray on cuts, skin irritations and to remove label goo...

Is it in the ground or attached to a fence rail?

It is in the ground. I don't have a picture but it looks like this photo I found online: http://lakelandpestcontrol.net/wp-co...st-300x200.jpg

Fill a bucket with damp sand. Go to the nest well after dark and put the bucket, upside down, on top of the nest. After a few days, carefully check to see if you got them. Sometimes they will tunnel out.

I'd go out after dark and jam a couple of feet of water hose in the opening and let it run for an hour

I had a yellow jacket nest in the ground, poured two pans of boiling water down the hole at night, steamed them to death, felt sorry for the worms but it got rid of them.
