Default Fence Woes

Hired contractor to put up Red Brand 2x4 square deal non-climb horse fence. Everything looked fine until I got close. Instead of securing fencing to wooden posts with fencing staples, he used a one inch long shot (staple used for putting up insulation in houses). There are a multitude of tiny gold staples trying to hold the heavy fencing up. The fence isn't straight, it's waving, the corners aren't wrapped, end posts aren't wrapped and where one roll of fencing ended and another added, instead of weaving and splicing together, it was just overlapped and stapled to death with a bunch of tiny gold staples. It meets the ground, next section 6 inches above ground and there are other problems. I voiced my concerns and he stood by his work, so I asked him not to touch the fence again. He told me what he wanted to be paid and I paid him. Now I am faced with trying to find someone to try and salvage what was done. If the many gold staples are taken out and the fence rehung afraid the multitude of staples in the grass with get in horses hooves. Wondered if fence could be salvaged without removing staples, stretched correctly and reinforced with proper fencing nails. There's a video on line on how to hang this fence from RedBrand. We are really floored by what just happened and would like some advice.

If you are going to move the fence much at all, the staples will have to be pulled, at least partially.

Someone being very careful can recover them and you could also go over the area with a magnet afterwards

Next time get specific, detailed work and materials instructions on paper before they begin.

The way I insure it's done to my liking is by doing it myself

The tiny staples will fall out one way or the other, if you stretch the fence proper everything moves and at 2 or 4 inches the vertical wires will be pulling the staples out. Staples have to go....

Got any kids or responsible neighbor kids, give them each a nipper and pay a few cents per staple in their buckets, let them work?

I'd weed eat to the bare ground around the posts, pull the staples, and if any get dropped they'd be easier to find visually or with a magnet. The staples definitely need to go before any new stretching is done. If the guy is that lazy and unprofessional, did he set the posts below the frost line? That might be worth checking before you waste money having someone attach to those posts, and then they heave loose.

I've got a neighbor about a mile from here who's fence lasted about 2 years. The guy did nearly everything wrong.
