Here in zone 7 of North Carolina the best time to sow fescue is the early Fall. I grow KY 31 tall fescue (Oregon state grown) and the current price is $44 US per 50 pounds. The planting rate is 20 pounds per acre. This is the longest lived, highest producing, high protein forage for Spring growth and stocking for Winter forage that I can grow. It has 1 issue and that is it is endophyte infected. My cattle seem to have adjusted to eating it and I do not see the consequences from the consumption that many people report. Fescue is my main forage throughout the year. The following is not a pure stand.
