Homesteading footwear - help!

We have about 13 acres but right now all of the animals and barns are pretty close to the house. Not all of the terrain is level in that we have hills, hollers and gullies on our land. We also have some places that are washed out and clay so it's hard on my feet and ankles. We are trying to watch the places that wash so we can route it a natural way to help us. Anyway... I find the traditional and inexpensive "muck boot" from Tractor Supply does the job but somedays I'm on my feet and all over the place all day long and they end up killing my feet. I need something water proof and sturdy that goes up above the ankle with a decent tread for the mud and also crumbly terrain but that are more comfortable. Any suggestions? TIA!

Check out Bogs Boots online. A lot of farmers in our area buy them and love them. www.bogsfootwear.com

I wear old military boots while working on the farm. They're not exactly waterproof, but I can walk through 2-3 inches of really sloppy mud without getting my feet wet. If the water would go over the top of the boot I'd have wet feet. They have great support, are comfortable all at, and are pretty rugged.

My military son has recommended Flight Boots that paratroopers wear for my bad ankles. He says they have a steel shank up the ankles to keep them from rolling during a landing. I haven't bought them yet, but you can find them online.

I've worn some ridiculous things on my feet doing farm chores. Flip flops is one of them (my feet get HOT in the summer). Sustained a lot of foot stomping by sharp little Shetland hooves. Now I try to wear my Wolverine boots. They're great footwear. Hard toes, comfortable for walking rough terrain and they last forever.

If you have the $$ to spend, check here: http://uspatriottactical.com/waterpr...tactical-boots

If not, my alternatives are leather (Ariar, Justin, etc) cow boy boots, good used pair on eBay is $20, find a cobbler and have them put walking tread, will look funny but be waterproof, snake and fire resistant, angle support, and great tread. Set you back about $60 total

Exactly! I need something to slip on... Tie shoes would be a waste of time and money because I wouldn't wear them.

Thank for the suggestions everyone!

Jump boots are comfortable and good support.

I wear Bean boots, they do make a pull on model now. I wish I had bought it instead of the tie ups because I do like slip-ons better. But you can wear them all day and your feet will feel great.

Tractor Supply had Sloggers last time I was there. I got my first pair 2 years ago and really have not put another shoe on since I have 4 pairs now. I wore them all winter as well. When they get all pooped up I just hose them off.
