Will fox attack lambs?

So I was planning on picking up a few weaned Katadin lambs this weekend. They're 2-3 months old.

My problem is that I have a new visitor to the farm, a red fox. He just got all of my birds. I don't have a barn I can lock up the lambs in, I have a paddock with a shelter, but it's not fox proof. Would picking these lambs up be a bad idea? I don't want them to end up as fox chow.

One of our customers said a big male fox used to go after her lambs, eating only the milk stomach. Ate the udders off of the ewes, too.

I have never personally had fox issues with young lambs, but have heard it CAN happen. Never say never, but IMO it would be doubtful at that age. But never say never...

With weaned lambs I wouldn't be too concerned.

They might be inclined to attack a newborn if starving, but most times they prefer rodents, rabbits and birds

A good electric fence with a couple of wires at 6" and 10" off the ground will make them think twice about even entering a pasture

You're going to need a LARGE Hav a Hart trap, or some leg hold traps to catch that Fox because they are creatures of habit, and will return to places where they found food.

This time of year they will be having Kits and will need plenty of groceries

Its a possibility of course. We have foxes that try for our birds and get the occasional one. We also found a young fox curled up asleep with our week old lambs once. Funny as heck we just watched him for a minute until he woke up blinked as he focused on us then he made a hurried escape!

Look into getting a guardian dog. Best move we ever made for our goats.
Nothing is going to get into HIS pasture that's not suppose to be there!!
