Have you priced the cost of a lawn service lately?

I'm pro-goat. We've got goat rental out here. Maybe a little eco-precious in their mission, but seems like a crafty marketing and business model. You pay me to clear your land while feeding my goats for free?

I have a friend who hired these goats for a week or two to clear out multi-floral rose and other assorted brush:

I was going to say goats are quieter than brush hogs and chain saws, and then I remembered this video. Goats can be loud.

When you look around at the amount of money and effort put into lawn "care" versus using the same ground for something productive, it's amazing.

Have a friend that bought goats to mow his lawn... They didn't do well at that, but they did eat everything down to nothing..

So, he kept a couple of goats to keep the brush cut back and now he has sheep to do the mowing..

Goats don't eat grass but browse on brush and small trees. If they get into wild cherry or yew not good at all for their life span. I think this idea might be creative but whose liability insurance will have to cover the damage of a goat destroying a neighbor's property (paint job on a BMW) or causing a car accident?

That human lawn care might end up being cheaper in the long run...

That is not a new idea at all.
Here is one from 6 years ago. About the same thing rent a goat
Quote:
Goats. That's right. The Maryland State Highway Department has enlisted a herd of 40 goats to graze the grass as an alternative to using lawn mowers. Unlike gasoline-powered mowers--or larger grazers such as cattle that could crush a bog turtle by shear force of weight--goats don't pose any risk to the reptiles and are pollution-free.

And a Website about renting a goat.

Go Green. Go Goats.
Rent A Goat helps businesses and homeowners landscape their properties in a safe and eco-friendly way, at a competitive price, by clearing their land with goats!

Goats don't pollute and naturally fertilize as they work
They eat unwanted plants and invasive weeds like poison ivy, kudzu, and thistle
Less expensive than gas guzzling machines and safer than cancerous chemicals
Goats team up with many California towns to reduce forest fire risk

And not a word on how you're going to keep them on your property.

Oh yes they do on that web site. Not sure about renting one from Amazon though LOL Maybe they contact one of these rental places and they then take care of grading them throughout the 'working hours' LOL
Our goats are all up to date on vaccinations, dewormer, and have full health care plans. They are transported via a roomy trailer and are guarded by one of our “goat wranglers” during their stay. They work from the hours of 9-5 and are brought back home in the evening for their safety. Prices are competitive with commercial landscaping services. Multi-day contracts are eligible for price discounts. For a precise estimate, please contact us.

The city of Seattle is using goats to clear brambles and other brush on steep hillsides along roads, especially down near the water. They are enclosed by temporary fences and seem to be doing a wonderful job of eating everything down to the ground.

My goats keep the grass down but what I really love is that they weed wack on the otherside of the fence as far as they can stick their noses through the openings.

I've never heard of using goats because they're browsers but my cousin made great money renting her sheep out for landscaping in a couple of ecologically sensitive areas. The company renting her sheep mowing service was responsible for fencing, flock protection, clean water source and any vet care required while under their care.

I wanted to do a sheep lawnmowing business over 10 years ago but the wife laughed at me.
