Apple trees???

I currently have planted a Honeycrisp and a Jonagold side by side. I only have space for one more tree, any recommendations on a good pollinator for both trees? When I planted the trees I didn't know they wouldn't pollinate each other. I life in SE Nebraska.

Braeburn, Cortland, Fuji,Granny Smith, and Red Delicious would be the easiest to obtain in our area. There are others, but I have not seen them easily available.

Honeycrisp™ Apple

Sweet as honey. These 3" beauties are quickly becoming a new American favorite. Crisp, cream-colored flesh is mild, sweet and aromatic. Cold-hardy. Ripens in early September. Best pollinators: any Golden Delicious, Stark® Jon-A-Red® Jonathan or Starkspur® Red Rome Beauty.

Jonagold Apple

Unique flavor makes the fruit luscious enough to serve by itself as dessert. This crisp super apple is a cross between the tart Jonathan and the sweet Golden Delicious. The result is a tasty treat for all. Ripens in mid September. Best pollinators: Stark® Jon-A-Red® Jonathan or any Golden Delicious. A licensed variety of Cornell University.
  • Note: Triploid; cannot pollinate other apple trees.

Depending upon the time available, you might check with a local nursery to see what they have that been acclimated to your area. Also, since you'll only have three, you might want to consider the use (pies, juice, decoration).

Crab apples. They often planted in orchards because they are the best pollinator and will pollinate all apple trees.

Yellow delicious/golden delicious will usually pollinate the other apple trees. That is what I have planted for a pollinator for red delicious and Stayman winesap.

Yup, Golden Delicious is called a "cock tree".

It makes no difference what variety of apple pollen an apple tree is pollinated with. I agree with Maura, crab apples are the best pollinators....especialy the crab apple varieties that put out millions of blossums every spring.

The apple pollinators have been charted out by variety and in time of blossom order, so you can choose one good for your use. Hang on, this is a big one! http://www.grandpasorchard.com/_ccLi...ple+(2013).pdf see the key....if you find an interesting apple, you could Google it or check a nursery catalog to see if is easy to grow, etc, etc

And, you might want to download this one for future reference...lots of "how-to" info here. See, "Growing tips http://www.grandpasorchard.com/index...ID/3/index.htm

This is not an endorsement of Grandpa's Orchard catalog...I just thought it is interesting...Don't know if Grandpa is related to "Granny Smith" or not...

NEcornfarmer I'm curious. Did you plant dwarf, semi dwarf or standard? I've got a dwarf Candy crisp or crunch planted last year and a standard Rhode Island Greening apple on order from Starks. Rhode Island Greening is one of my all purpose favorite apples. Now I just have to strive to get older to see them produce well...

I also have several fruit trees of varying heights that haven't bloomed yet(from seed in the compost) so they are mysteries waiting to be seen/identified.

Apples and potatoes...

My Evereste crab from Raintree Nursery puts out 1-2 blooms contantly. Right now the Terry Winter Keeper from Horse Creek Farm has blossoms out, as does the 3-in-1 low chill apple from Raintree.(Anna, Golden Dorset, Fuji) Summer Champion bloomed in late January, it was planted as a year old whip in November.
Tryinng to remember off the top of my head what I orederd for November 2015. Grimes Golden, Brogden, Rev. Morgan, King David...I think if I have space for any more apples in 2016 I'de order a Dolgo crab (Raintree) Everestes apples are the size of ball bearings, Dolgo are 2 iches.

Liberty is a good pollinator. You can see a lot of choices and information to help you with your decision at Johnsons Nursery in Ellijay, GA.

I have several types of crabapple trees.
Thunderchild is a heavy pollinator and ornamental
fruit setter ideal for the birds...beautiful flowering like
CB's pic.
The other is classical Red crabapples ideal for making jelly.
Also bulletproof hardy.
Another is a sweet yellow fruited crab they call 'Apple crab' here.
It's small but the best fresh eating. Also very hardy.

I don't bother with nursery stock fruit trees...just never had
much luck with them for zone 3 hardiness.

I agree with both the Golden Delicious or crab apples for pollinators. My grandparents always defaulted to crab apples, keeping a couple around for jelly and pollen, and it seemed like they bloomed continuously all spring/summer.

Walmart, Tractor Supply, or pretty much ANY SEED STORE, ANYWHERE.

Chances are, if your ARE buying GMO corn seed, it is going to come with a contract to sign.

Oh, and be careful when ordering, because the order form is probably in tons, not packets.

I've got a Golden Russet as my primary pollinator, I thought about crab apples but I've also heard that they're so disease vulnerable they can get infected and wipe our your orchard.
