Anybody in the general area of Lawrence, KS?

I was born in Lawrence, KS - lived in KS until I moved to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan in 1994. I'm ready to move back closer to my family and I have managed to get DH on board (easier than I thought, actually). We'll have to sell our current homestead in the UP first, and DH has committed to working here through next winter so we do have some time.

He'll be retired but probably wanting to find something fun and part time (he's experienced at building homes, home maintenance, heavy equipment operation etc) and I'm still planning to work - but hopefully only part time. I'd rather spend the majority of my time taking care of the homestead. I'm a home health and hospice RN, by the way, if anybody's looking for one.

So we're going to be looking for a place. We'd rather rent at this point, as we'll be debt-free when we move back and we hope to stay that way. Since I want to work as few hours outside the home as possible we're going to be looking for some place cheap. We need to be able to have our 5 milk goats & 3 dogs & 2 cats and maybe a few egg chickens, a big garden, and a place to do all of our canning and store all of our canned goods etc. It would be a dream come true if we found a place where we could also have my horse, otherwise I'll have to board her with relatives. It needs to be close enough to Lawrence/Tonganoxie/Eudora that I can visit all my family easily and we'd even be happy with a mobile home as long as it's clean and has plumbing, electricity and a reasonably cool shady location or a nice strong whole house/attic fan. A porch is a must

Just putting the feelers out there - like I said, we have some time.

The further south you look from Lawrence, the cheaper the real estate. I live about 2 hours south of there....

Thats true. Lawrence is in Douglas county, just west of Johnson county.
I would look just south into Miami co. or franklin co.
I really love Paola ks.

I'm finding lots of good places in Mound City. I found one place in Paola that looked good. This is so exciting. We're also looking at the Ozarks - it's a little far from home but . . . . might be worth it!
