composting toilet ?

Looking for reviews and thoughts on composting toilets. A friend of mine is wanting to install a small bathroom on a small cabin that is used very little and asked about this.

Google "humanure" and build your own.
$50 will produce a nice one with no odor.

Location of the cabin? In Texas, it WILL breed flies. Those little tiny ones can go right thru window screen and they will set up housekeeping quickly. I tried a composting toilet near Austin and had to take it out. I don't recommend any of the commercial ones, but some locations building code will require it. I had a 'Nature's Head".

I'd suggest having a compost bin well away from the cabin and using the sawdust bucket. Empty it each and every time before leaving the cabin and wash it. Don't leave anything in the cabin, not even sawdust in a container unless it is sealed very tightly. Otherwise you may have a nest of fire ants in the sawdust. Expect fire ants to nest in the compost too. They will be attracted to the moisture and loose texture of it, so use caution if you turn it.
