Question.

How can we stop my wife's male cat from peeing on the carpet besides giving him lead poison?

We stopped it by giving the cat to the lady next door.

Check him for a urinary tract infection.
If he's not sick, then lead poisoning might be an option.........

Talk to your Vet but breaking a Male cat will not be easy and if it has not happen yet----the smell in your home will get to the point you want have to worry about your door bell ringing----because no one will want to visit you! If My Wife had a male cat and he did this----he would go in the yard or a out building set-up for him---he would Not stay in my home. Good Luck!

I agree with Fire-Man. Make him an outside cat unless he's been de-clawed or really old and couldn't defend or fend for himself.

Cats don't like citrus so try putting orange peels in areas he normally pees in.

How long neutered? Takes a while for hormones to die down. Keep very clean box. This is breeding season and he is letting everyone know he is available. KOE from amazon is amazing at removing the odor. Use it or coworkers will not sit with you at lunch.

If he was a tom for four years, fuggedaboudit! Outdoor cat or gone one way or the other. This is one of those things that you can't give in on. We had a young tom that didn't mend his ways and we had to re-home because of that. We were fortunate to find a no-kill situation, but if push had come to shove...

It's interesting that it's your wife's cat.

Dirty cats get to live outside. Our male cats like to be outside a lot.

Remember, if you put a hole in a cat for any reason, the evil begins to leak out.

That's why veterinarians have to wear those masks when they operate on them.

So don't put a hole in the cat, put the cat in a hole.

What has changed?
Cats do this (if not sick) in response to something being changed in their lives.

Petco has spray-on stuff that kills the odor and makes the chosen spot smell bad to cats (To people it has a nice fragrance, but cats hate it).

Once the habit was lost they found some place else to pee. I haven't had to treat the front door in years.

Well, if he's already peed on it in a few places already, take the carpet outside, and the cat with it. And if necessary, get your new wife a new carpet.

There is no carpet in my house. There will never be any carpet in my house. Yes no one like cold floors. I do like healthy much better. Pee is not the only thing that gets into carpet. Neighbors removed theirs because of fleas.

Unfortunately, that leaves the ground tainted.
