Trying to Fix Old Electric Clothes Dryer

I have a real old Maytag dryer that still works OK. The round plastic piece that has all the dial settings on it broke, so I don't have any way to tell if I have the dryer on Permanent press, Time Dry, etc.

The dryer is so old I can't find a replacement part. I think I finally found the right part #, but it says discontinued. I found what I think is the part that replaced it, but that one says discontinued as well.

Does anyone know a parts place that might have discontinued Maytag parts?

Thanks

No, but if you can see the photo of the discontinued part, print it out, and glue it onto a piece of vinyl or heavy paper, and stick that onto the place where the knob was. For awhile the way I turned on my dryer involved using the pliers to grab and twist the little metal piece sticking out of the surface of the dryer, where the knob came off.
Good luck!

When the knob is turned, the settings piece turns with it.

I found all the broken plastic parts and super glued it back together. I'll try it later and see if it stays in one piece.

It looks like the repaired part is working.

I'll be back soon for help with the washer!

Used the dryer and the super glued piece held up.

My old washer started having trouble spinning and started banging and clanging. Created a smell that I thought was the belts, but it could have been electrical.

Replaced the belts and it works great.

I'm not handy with these type of things, but replacing the belts was very easy to do. I encourage anyone to tackle these type of problems yourself. Just go to youtube or find a parts site that has tutorials or how to videos.

We gave up using a dryer and will not buy another one. Hanging clothes is saving us a lot on electricity. Have you thought about changing your system?
