How Much for a 4 x 4 Compact Tractor?

What should my price range be when looking at a reliable and small 4 x 4 tractor that can set round bales of hay and dig corner post hole and maybe move small loads of dirt? By reliable I mean for someone who doesn't know mechanics and doesn't want to have to take to shop for minor things so would probably have to be newer? Can a Kubota or New Holland like this be found for around $7500. Or what would price tag be for 2010??? Thanks

Price tag for my 2015 Branson 3120r (31hp 4x4) with loader, box blade, post hole digger, and 18ft dual axel trailer was $21500 OTD.

You'll want about a 30hp or larger if you plan to move round bales, or put a front end loader on it.

I sorta doubt you'll find something as new as a 2010 for that, but I suppose you might luck into a deal. Most likely, you are looking in the $12,000 and up range for what you want....a very lightly used, late model tractor. There are several large farm machinery sales/auction places out there....Google them....and you'll get an idea as to price.

I sold my 1998 33hp New Holland (4x4 and FEL) for $7500 3 years ago when I bought my new Yanmar LX410 (41hp, 4x4, FEL) for $18,000.

Free shipping:

But it ain't gonna be $7500.

Tractorhouse is always a good place to start looking, though. Just do a search for less than 40hp tractors and refine it by your location.

It'll give you a feel for what's out there and what people are asking.

I got a John Deere 3005 with a 300 loader for 13,500. Very low hours. I shopped for several months and this was the best deal I found. Like the tractor.

Don't overlook the MF 1250 4x4 30hp diesel w/FEL in that range.

One of my buddies found a Kubota for $10,000. It has a front end loader and bush hog. It would run a post hole digger, but it is too small for big bales. I dont know the model. It was in good shape, but I am guessing it was 6 or7 years old.

You can probably find something for $7,500, but it is gonna have some age on it and need some TLC and mechanical stuff.

That aint a lot of money anymore. People are spending twice to three times that on ATV's and Side-by-sides.

Remember tractors aren't quite like cars, they hold up a little longer. Something from the 90s can have a lot of life in it yet, not give much trouble. I wouldn't be at all afraid of a well kept compact with 2000, 3000 hours on it. Well kept.....

$12,000 should buy what you want, $7500 might get what you need.

Are you needing to lift small round bales high with the front loader, or just move them with a rear three point fork? 30hp works for the rear moving them, would want more if you really need to lift them with the front high.....

Moving the bales and setting them.... very important it can handle round bales and also dig post holes. those two are indispensable. moving a little dirt around if i can do it with same tractor and fel would be a plus. I'm just window shopping right now have needed a tractor for forever seems like and don't want to end up with more problems so has to be newer and not an older one like i thought before. last time when i asked about tractors, lol.

I recently bought a kubota 32 hp for 8K. It was an '08 and had only 750 hrs on it. Belonged to an old lady who used it to move her firewood around and not much else. Most the time it sat in the barn. I really wanted something a bit bigger but the price was such a good deal I couldnt pass it up.

Just for comparison, a recent price (down here) on a L3901 Kubota with FEL was $20,000 with 0.9% financing.

I have a 4WD Massey-Ferguson 24Hp with: front loader bucket, backhoe, pallet forks, disc harrow, and pot snow blower.

It does all that I need. It was $18k brand new.

Why do you call them grey market Grizz? I bought my Kioti from an authorized dealer. Grey market would typically mean the tractor was sold in some other country at a lower price than in the U.S. and then imported by a party unrelated to the manufacturer (not through their dealer network).

Post hole diggers are easy, I used a 15 hp old Kubota, so will be fine on 15-50 hp. Only consideration, some tiny compacts have odd short 3pt arms, and the sissors geometry of a post hole digger don't fit right. But you will be looking at bigger than those tiny machines.

Moving bales on the three point is fairly easy, but you can't drop them in a ring. So if you need them lifted higher to feed needs a bigger tractor to lift them on the loader end.

I was always under the impression it was called "Grey MArket" when it's manufactured in another country then assembled in the US. I have a Branson (2nd post on this thread), I wasn't meaning anything negative about them.

Several other forums I am apart of always loop these companies into Grey Market tractors....
