you know it's been cold when..........

You go outside and think "wow man its so warm" then you check the temperature and it's -1. Lol. I just went outside to do a few things without a hat or coat and it felt so warm. Haha, its all in perspective.

So true. I went shopping today without a coat. It was 22.

In fall, we put on jackets at 60 degrees. In spring, they come off at 40.

You know you're a Minnesotan when the thermometer reads -12 and you start singing "we're having a heat wave..."

Its suppose to be in the mid 30's this weekend. My wife asked if I could put some fresh water in the hot tub and grill some steaks.

You know it's cold when you do the happy dance because you have plenty of kindling and three 7" diameter hickory logs on the wood rack.

You know it's cold when you have a pup at your feet and two cats on top of you and you don't change positions because they might get up and move.

I know exactly what you mean!
One year, was training a puppy; had to go outdoors in winter 4,000 times a day (well below zero)....needed coat, hat, gloves, boots, heavy pants etc. One week later, it was 20 above zero....a 40 degree difference. I went out in shirtsleeves, and remarked how 'balmy' it felt.... then 2 days later, back to below zero...

When I lived up north 40 degree's in the fall was cold (coming out of the warm summer) but in the spring 40 degree's was warm (coming out of the cold winter).

All depends on what you are used to. Living in Texas for 15 years now (and FL for 7 years before that) anytime it's below 70 degree's I need a sweater.

When you give up on using ones pens and pencils and rely on crayons.

Ink freezes, lead is too fragile. And we had no heat but for a few hours a day choosing to spend the day in public places..-40 for long periods till we reached minus teens for a month and a half.

Winter 2003.....was not a good year.. homeless but not landless, moving from a beach shack because of the tides and a 8 by 10 metal shed. We made it.

Hahahaha! This is so very very true! We are going back into the deep freeze today and tomorrow here in sunny Central WI. Wind chill never got above 0F and will be much much colder tonight and tomorrow.

On a happier note, our agressively passive solar home stayed between 73F-75F all day due to sun heating the place. Will not need to start the wood stove till late tonight.
