Kentucky Internet Connection

I am looking for information about internet service from folks that live in Kentucky. Specifically around Danville, Harrodsburg, Perryville area or that general vicinity. Our problem is trying to find an acceptable internet connection. My wife works remotely for a hospital group out of Roanoke, VA. She has to have a reliable internet connection but for security purposes it cannot be satellite or phone. Pretty much leaves DSL or cable-net. Are they available there? Will we have to be in a city such as Danville or can we get connected out of town on the farm? This will greatly affect what choices we have for properties. We have to find something by the end of February. I've asked this before but not specifically about that area of Kentucky, we just recently decided Kentucky was the place we wanted to go. Any help ya'll could give would be greatly appreciated. What service do you use? How reliable? Bytes per second? And so forth.

Thank ya'll so much,

nosedirt

Further east than you are talking about our phone company installed fiber optic all over their territory last year. We have fiber optic 30 miles from town at the end of a gravel road.

You might call the phone company near any area you are interested in.

Welcome to KY.

Stay out of Casey Co. It's a great place to live, 25 miles from Danville, but the Windstream service there sucks-royaly.

I can't give you any help but I live about 25 miles from Danville. I have to use HughesNet where I live but I live in a very low population area. It's either dial up or hughesnet for me. I would think you would have access to better internet connections living closer to Danville.

My wife and I work from home. We use a Verizon 4g hotspot with a grandfathered unlimited account. It is expensive but low latency and 25mb download which works well for us.

I've got Windstream DSL about 10 miles from Danville. It's fast as long as no one is trying to watch Hulu, etc. at the same time I'm on the computer.

And that's about where we wanted to be. May have to stay closer to Danville. Thanks Terri

Mallow, I would like to use that setup but she spoke with her IT guys today and they say absolutely not. I don't know why it wouldn't be as secure as anything else but they won't accept it.

I've heard from a few folks via a different forum. Some of them love their Windstream, others say they hate it. I think that due to time restraints and due to the fact that we still haven't found exactly what we want for a farm property, we have decided to buy something in Danville. Then we can take our time looking for what we want in a farm property. I don't mind buying a house long distance but a farm is just a little harder to shop for from across the country. We are so excited about moving and we will get there in time to start a garden. woo hoo

I just moved from Casey after living there for 6+ years and not anyone I know from there is impressed with the Windstream service. At times we would go days without service and at least once a day have connection problems. It is a great area otherwise.

Why not rent and give yourself time to look around?

I run all my traffic through a VPN for the encryption. That may be an option if they are complaining about it.

Things should be looking up soon. Kentucky recently took steps to run fiber to pretty much every home in the state. Links below.
